Tiny detail, not important but bothering me!

summer_sparkles, 16 June, 2009 at 18:36 Posted on Planning 0 10

How are you/did you put your guests' names on your table plan?

EG: Mr. Joseph Bloggs

or

Joseph Bloggs

or

Joe Bloggs

I think I'd rather just do the third option and have them down as I know them with shortened names or nicknames but we're having a really formal traditional wedding so that's in contrast to everything else. I know it doesn't really matter but it's bugging me! The joys of planning a wedding eh? ?

Most weddings i've been to have just had peoples first name on the actual table with the full name ie Joseph Bloggs on the table plan. But don't know if that's the norm...

    Hi,

Have you come back from cloud 9 yet? Well done.

I did shortened names so the best man is actually called Derek but we call him Del so seems daft to put Derek when we wouldn't normally in conversation. His wife is Joanne but gets called Jo so again used that.

ETA I put surnames on both the table plan and place cards.

We did the Mr/Mrs/Miss thing but also used shortened names, so our usher was Mr. Jonny Mxxxx on both the table plan and the place card, even though his name is Jonathan. Only his mother calls him Jonathan!

We are not putting titles (the whole Ms/MrsMiss dilemma was too much to take) and have a mixture of formal and shortened names. It depends on the person really - we have a Jonathan who is sometimes Jon sometimes Jonathan so we are using Jonathan - then there is Jim who has always been Jim so Jim he shall stay...

Sorry thats a lot of waffle to say very little, hope it helps anyway

Joseph Bloggs on plan, Joe or Joseph on name places, mainly what we know them as, but also that's because I can only fit so many letters on my poker chips.

I think you need surnames for definite on the plan but once they get to the table, even if there's two people with the same first name I'm sure they'll work out where they are meant to sit.

I had enough trouble working out if people were Miss, Mrs or Ms for the invitation addresses, if I offended anyone then I'm not doing it again on the day!

We put on the table plan first name and then last name. I would have got too stressed getting the titles right! lol

Thanks! Think I'm going to leave titles and do a mix of things we know people by and the full name and surname depending on how well we know them.
