Tipping

adiesummer2012, 15 May, 2012 at 15:49 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hi all,

Getting close now and I'm trying to think of last minute bits I've forgotten. One thing that occurred to me is tips. Which of your suppliers are you tipping (if any) and have you thought about how much?

We have:

Photographer

Caterers

Venue owner

Serving staff

Band

Cars

Florist

Hairdresser

Make up artist

We will be giving a donation to the church, organist and flower lady there but of the above, who would you tip?

thanks!

To be honest I'm not sure I would tip any of them. I'm paying them all crazy amounts so would hope that would be enough.

If they were people I knew well however I might give them a bottle of wine. Or perhaps if they did me a massive discount....

Are you not organising a mobile disco to work alongside the band? x

I tipped my hairdresser as she was doing me a favour.

I rounded up the cash amount for the driver of the car.

    That was it.

I am assuming that the 2 centre pieces and bottle of champagne from the gift table that were *lost* were payment enough!

Agreed that they are costing enough - just wasn't sure what the norm was! I always tip my hairdresser and although this is a different lady I will probably do so...then probably the serving staff too and we'll just leave it at that.

Personally, I could never imagine receiving a tip from a bride and groom. Neither could my son who is a wedding DJ. As Wedding suppliers B&G's pay us to provide the best service possible ensuring that we not only match our client’s expectations but we pass their expectations. This is what I believe every wedding supplier strives to achieve. If they don’t, I honestly believe they should not be working in the wedding industry!

Adam and I both agree a lovely thank you card or e-mail is worth so much more.

    I hope this helps

    Linda xx

    None.

The only person I paid extra was my cake lady - and that was only because she quoted me £100 to do TWO 3-tier cakes as she is a non-professional baker who has started her own business off the back of my order. So instead, I gave her £150.

I have emailed all of my suppliers to say thank you.

We tipped the limo driver in the evening, as I was drunk and insisted on taking all the presents with us back to the hotel, he helped us carry them all up to our suite ?

I thought the standard was that you don't tip those that own their own business? So, for instance, you might tip your hairdresser if she worked in a large salon but rented her booth, but if your hairdresser happen to be the owner of that salon, then you wouldn't tip her.

Since almost all those we hire are the owners of their business, we won't be tipping.

I'm not tipping anyone...well maybe if the venue waiting staff are excellent at their job but i'm not sure. I'm feeding my photographers, the DJ is allowed to pick from the buffet as well as soft drinks...florist, cake lady and car people I am paying enough!

Service charge is included in our bill for venue and catering, I may give our TOG and maybe wedding co ordinator a bottle of fizz if i feel they deserve it.

I hadn't ever thought of this, I doubt i will tip anyone, im a bit of a stingey tipper anyway, only really tip at meals or where the service is exceptional. You are paying for a service where the price is usually marked up exorbitantly (sp?) especially with weddings. i would consider it if they had given me a massive discount.
