Tips for getting rings off fingers?

Redbedhead, 16 February, 2009 at 08:12 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

Can anyone give me some tips on getting rings off my fingers. My ring finger has swollen up for some reason and I want to get my wedding and engagement rings off asap. I have tried twisting the rings and also running my finger under cold water for a while but neither have worked.

Thanks

Was going to suggest cold water and then using butter or olive oil to try and ease them off. Maybe just try the oil if you've already tried the cold water?

Washing up liquid/soap/moisturiser/oil anything like that should work, especially added with the cold water or ice. It it gets all red stop for a while as agravating it makes it swell more

Elevate your arm for a while to try and drain some swelling out of it. I had to do this once when I was in hospital, I had a drip in but my hand swelled and couldn't get the rings off. I kept my arm elevated for a while by hooking it over the head of bed (!) and then used liquid soap to ease them off. Anything else that will help, like oil, washing up liquid, vaseline, moisturiser.. stuff like that

I think this is what has happened actually. Thanks for the tips, I am going to wait till the baby is asleep then I will put some frozen peas on my finger and then use some oil as well.

    Right, this does work promise!

Get some floss or thin cotton string. Poke one end under your ring on the palm side. Hold one end between your fingers on the same hand and twist the bottom bit around you finger with the other hand, working upwards. It should push the ring up as you go and hey presto, its off!!! Try it, it does work!!!!!!!!!

Put baby into pram & go for a walk - being out in the cold air will help.

Bizarrely window cleaning spray - clear ones - work if sprayed on the finger. Advised by Fly Lady I think, she uses Windex for everything!

Thanks all. Rings now off after going swimming (which was pretty cold!) and then putting some cream on my hands before I tried to get them off.

Problem appears to have been caused by a bite on my ring finger (no idea from what) that has caused part of the finger near the rings to swell.
