Tips for taming wild hair...

Arquard, 10 May, 2011 at 11:05 Posted on Planning 0 8

My lovely MoH is really worried about her hair. It's very, very curly and just above shoulder length. She normally lets it find it's own style, which to me always looks fantastic - the sort of wild and untamed look that many people spend lots of money trying to cultivate! For the wedding, she wants to calm it down into a more traditional style but I have no idea where to start! She's bleached and dyed it so much over the years that it's quite dry so I don't want to do anything to her that will ruin it. Is there some sort of magical serum I can get to smooth it with the help of straighteners? I've promised her we'll spend the night before the wedding practicing and playing about with it.

If it's dry I'd recommend she starts doing a weekly deep condition - ideally leaving conditioner in overnight. My Mum and other people I know are raving about Moroccan Oil at the moment too. I'd invest in a good serum/ heat protector lotion. The Sebastian range are quite good as are Kerastase.

As for product to put on on the day, I'd only put serum onto the ends of the hair otherwise her hair will look a bit too shiny. Has she thought of getting a Brazilian blow dry or going tot he hairdressers for a trial?

She's just moved house so is a bit broke atm, otherwise I think she'd be straight down to the hairdresser for advice and a trial!

    Moroccan oil eh? Sounds interesting!

Is she in MK too? If so, the L'Occitane shop has some samples of their hair masks she can ask for.

No she's in Stoke. I'll see if I can pick something up for her though. Where is that shop? In the shopping centre?

My OH has hair that sounds like what you've described, she uses this conditioner on it that a bit expensive but it works really well. All I know about it is that it's in an orange bottle so that's no help but i'll find out what it is and post the name when I can.

My hair is similar, although worse, as its "own style" is a frizzy mess! I either have to style it curly, or straighten it. Mine has been highlighted loads over the years, so it's really dry.

Is she having an up-do for the wedding, or does she just want a nice blow dry? Just a wash and blow dry in a salon shouldn't cost too much and it's amazing what hairdressers can do just with a brush and a hairdryer! She could ask for a wash, with conditioning treatment and a blow dry and I really don't think it'd be that expensive.

I don't have tame hair, but on the brazilian hair blowing, I know a few people that have had it done and they're all in love with it, it definitely helps tame the hair. It is a bit pricey but places like Wahanda and Groupon always have deals come up on them to make them a bit more affordable, might be worth looking at?

L'Occitane is in the Centre:MK next to Thomas Sabo and opposite Patisserie Valerie.
