Tips on finding a hairdresser

BlurpImpala, 24 March, 2009 at 13:45 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hello

I am getting married on a Sunday, so the hairdresser at my venue (it is a hotel in the country - so not near to lots of hairdressers) isn't open.

Does anyone have any tips for finding a mobile hairdresser when you don't really have any local recommendations? It's very hard to tell from websites if the hairdressers are any good.

It is in Warwickshire/Solihull area if anyone knows anyone good.

Thanks

Not really what you asked - but have you tried contacting the salon there to see if they can open on the Sunday, or if any of their stylists would be prepared to do your hair in your room on the day?

Just a suggestion as I work in a hair salon, and we close on Sundays but often do weddings on Sundays. Worth a try maybe?

    Hi,

you say you don't have any local recommendations - do you mean from friends? If so have you tried asking round your suppliers if they know anyone? I found my make up artist via my dressmaker, and my hairdresser via my make up artist! On the morning they were chatting with my photographer and florist and swapping cards/details etc then too so they could recommend each other some more.

Thanks for the replies. It was someone at the salon who said they wouldn't do Sundays. I'll try the other suppliers for advice.

Have you looked at the list of hair and beauty suppliers on hitched . try calling a few and have a chat . you can generally get an idea whether you like the sound of them. For the most part If a hairdresser is advertising themselves as a'wedding hairdresser' they should have experience . Its down to whether you like them or not .

I have a couple of friends who are also hairdressers but would rather go to the dentist than do hair for a wedding! But I also have met a few who love it like I do, so look for someone who does it a lot. If the person you chose is booked ask them for a recommendation.

Contacting your venue or other suppliers is a good idea, as is the local bridal wear stockist . I am recommended by a few photographers and video guys in my area. I also do the hair at a couple of wedding fairs fashion shows so have a few contacts that way. I even get recs from a toastmaster and he recommended me to his daughter !.

Be prepared to pay a bit extra for sundays though, especially if you get a hairdresser that does normal hairdressing as well. if you've worked all week, as much as I love it , I do need a bit extra to convince me to work on my only day off!.

If you don't have any luck try The freelance hair and beauty federation. www.fhbf.org.uk give them a call and they can let you know who does bridal services in that area.

hope that helps and good luck in your search.
