Tiresome Irritations of Today

marmalade atkins, 10 March, 2009 at 11:35 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 26

Son has to dress as a character from a book onFriday for Comic Relief. Hilarious. He wants a tuxedo to go as James Bond. I'm not wiling to buy him a tux as he's 10.

All the books he reads are about ordinary characters, nothing to dress up as. Am bored of listening to him go on about it and have no idea what to dress him in.

The plumber hasn't turned up to service the boiler. I am getting the rage at him being late, even though I have nothing else to do.

My space bar is broken and it takes ages to type anything.

My new hairdresser has fcuked off back to Brazil & I have to go to another one who I don't know.

I can't find navy shoesto go with my new frock.

Today my glass is half empty.

    <soothe>

Can he go as one of the Spy Kids, he'd only need shades and a cool backpack?

Can we help you with the navy shoes?

Could he go as Harry potter, perhaps get a cape from somewhere (there may be one left over from halloween), make a wand and get some glasses, draw a scar on his head with a bit of eye liner.

Can't help with the other stuff though, sorry

That does sound like a world of crappyness. You have my sympathies,

There was someone last week (or maybe te week before) looking for ideas for costumes for Book Day, and got loads of suggestions. I'll see if I can find it for you, see if it helps at all.

I would be getting The Rage at the plumber too. How bloody rude of him!

Re book day, hand him an (obviously) toy gun and make him look beaten up a bit? He could have just been on a mission [check out those straws I am grasping]. Tell him it that or he has to pick a character from one of the girls favourite books.

Poor MA, hope it gets better for you soon!

Dress him up as James Bond at 10 - ie school uniform.

Calm down about the plumber, can you give him a ring? Maybe he's gone to an emergency.

    New keyboard?

Argh, changing hairdressers is terrible, have you got some good recommendations from people?

Here are some navy shoes http://www.clarks.co.uk/find/NewLine-is-newline/Department-is-women/product-is-20328900

Send him to school in his swimming trunks a la Daniel Craig. That might put him off the whole James Bond idea ?

I feel your pain. Eldest has a Carnival theme for Friday. The youngest has PJ day so she's sorted. Not sure what to do for Carnival though.

Or make him just go in a pair of speedos. That'll learn him.

My main irritation today is that I have a pounding headache and can't be bothered to do anything.

I have suggested The Hungry Caterpillar - NO! Although this was to be expected.

He suggested MrT. From the well-known book.

I suggested Charlie Bucket - NO!

He suggested Elvis. From the well-known book.

Re shoes, yes please. No more than £50 and not too high.

    This is my frock:

Can you also make the runts go to sleep and stop yelling at each other? TIA.

? Poor MA. At least you're not my friend. She has two children, a boy and a girl, one wants to go as Optimus Prime and the other wants to go as a Pussycat doll. Neither cares that their chosen characters aren't from books and my friend is having a breakdown at the thought of making a robot costume and having her 7 year old daughter looking like a tramp ?

I suggested him going in a pair pants, he grunted at me. He wants a tux, open bow tie and slicked back hair. He thinks he''s Danny bloody Ocean.

Plumber is an arse. Have been waiting in negligee as per "Confessions"-style movie and am getting cold*

Lois, those shoes might do actually. Ta.

*This may not be actually true.

Do you have time for a charity shop trip? I am clutching at straws abit too, just wondering if they would have a small jacket for him? Failing that, I would go with Harry P or Puss' idea of dressing him up as a rough JB. Or someone from Lord of the rings? Gandalf might work with a sheet and beard?

Why is it when you need to wait in for someone, they are always late! I compeltely understand your frustrations on that one.

? for you, hope your day gets better.

We had the dressing up as a book character last week - C went as Ben 10 and V went as a disney princess. Half of the boys in the school were ben 10 and 3/4 of the girls were disney princesses ?

this friday they have to dress in 'something funny' for money. I suggested to C that he wears V's fairy wings.... nope. I then suggested he just wears his uniform to stand out ?

gah - hate non uniform days.... and we will be having easter bonnet hell coming up soon....

Could you make him a paper nose cone and stitch ears to a brown hoodie - Fantastic Mr Fox?

Or some sort of pirate hat/hook combo for Captain Hook?

KB3 - Carnival says Mardi Gras to me. Send her topless wearing strings of beads ?

He won't go as Harry Potter.

Loof, C suggested David Beckham or Simon Le Bon ( is having a DuranDuran phase atm) on the basis that they have had biographies done. Simon Le bloody Bon.

Hole, those shoes are a bit, erm, flamboyant for my taste. Maybe if I take up country and western singing, I'll bear them in mind.

KB3, they're fab,but I'd break my back trying to walk in them and keep tabs on the runts.

I'm going to try and force him to go as Charlie Bucket.

What kind of shoes do you want? What's the dress like?

Make C wear the Daniel Craig/Bond swimming pants.

I know I mentioned it before but Gandalf? the only issue would be a cotton wool beard thing, but he can take a big stick with him (or is he liable to club someone)

Mother just phoned, someone's lending her a black school blazer & bowtie so he can go 007 after all. Mother has spent morning traipsing round charity shops looking for small suit. She is mentalist, but panic over.

    Cheers for the ideas.
