TMI... but period worry anyone?!

sarahv75, 13 March, 2010 at 20:35 Posted on Planning 0 30

Sorry if it's TMI but i'm really panicking i'll be on my period when i get married in 6 weeks time! I thought I'd be ok but now it's not looking good at all. Is anyone else worried about it? I've just stopped breastfeeding so I'm considering going back on the pill so I can stop it happening!

Last year when I went on holiday I was due on and mine are really painful so I went to the docs. He gave me some pills, and I didn't have to beg for them, and they held it off until I was back home. Why don't you try that?

I'm on the pill so not a worry of mine but even if you went back on the pill just now it can take your body a bit of time to settle into a routine?!?!

You might be best just to see what happens and if it does I guess its not the end of the world, wouldn't be ideal thats for sure but I suppose worse things could happen on your big day??

Anyway I would speak with your doc asap

Yeah I had to start mine a week before I was due and keep taking them until I was ready for it. Worked really well for me. Def worth a try.

Ooh I don't know, but if it's the same pill I was on you could just take 2 packs back to back and not have a break. Would that not solve the problem?

I had so many problems with the pill and the contraceptive injection that I ended up coming off everything and h2b had the snip!!!! Sounds drastic but it was really driving a wede between us and that was the only answer. The doctors are quite quick to put people onto these things but half the time they don't actually suit people properly.

What are you going to do? Has the doc suggested anything else?

I have the same problem!! I've only recently started my periods again and my old cycle was around 30 days, which means i should've started last weekend! I can't see how i can be pregnant again (hope not!!) as we've been very careful, so i'm putting it down to wedding stress too.

Oooh didn't know about that 'magic pill'! Will get an appointment with the docs asap. Thanks for that!

I'm not supposed to take the pill as I suffer from migranes but as I haven't had one for around 3 years the doctor has allowed me to go on the pill for a few months on the understanding I stop if I start to get headaches. I just didn't want to be worrying about my period on my hen night and hen weekend, the wedding day and the honeymoon.

I came off the pill last year to get ready for sprogs. My periods are still a bit erratic but I don't want to take anything to stop them as it's taking me a while to settle down so i'm gonna have to lump it if it comes on the day. And take pletny of drugs!

Yup - I came off the pill when I was 20 and mine have never been as regular since so I'm really reluctant to go on anything else...I'm really hoping that I won't have it on the day - but I guess if I do I just have to lump it. I'm also hoping I won't be on the week before as my stomach goes MASSIVE the week before I come on and I don't know I'll fit in the dress!

I've tried var water balancing things - nothing does it. I'm still always surprised a couple of days after I start how (relatively!) flat my stomach is. O/T did you find a makeup artist yet?

As long as your periods are always at least 3-4 weeks apart even if they are sometimes longer apart, taking Norethisterone will be fine. Instead of taking it the month of your wedding though, I would take it the month before. So if you are due around the 1st of the month and getting married the 1st of June. I would start the Norethisterone around the 25th of April and stop taking it the 15th of May. Your period will then be approx 17th May- 22nd May, which means your next should start approx 15th June (when you are back from honeymoon).

I wouldn't take it for the first time around your wedding day, as it can give you prolonged PMT ie 3 weeks of water retention, bad moods spots etc and you would need to remember it 3 times a day on your wedding day and on honeymoon, whereas it is much easier to manage that the month before the wedding. It shouldn't make your periods more erratic and isn't a contraceptive, so shouldn't affect ability to conceive, even if you want a honeymoon baby.

as for bloating - nothing really works for me but i find it really difficult to digest white rice or white bread around that time so keep away from most carbs n that seems to help a bit? of course drape myself in layers of baggy clothing so no one will begin to think i am 3 months pregnant!!x

Let me know how you get on - I still haven't booked mine. Saw a girl advertised on the suppliers on here, at 30 for trial and 60 for on the day, but what happens if she's sick on the day or whatever?? I think the other option is the "absolutely beautiful" people little jen from on here used.

I'm on the pill so I will be doubling up to stop anything happening. The magic pill that makes you not have AF is fab although after you stop taking you will be in pain and mega heavy (well I was, so were my friends!) so keep taking them until you're ready for it! Worth it though.

My friend has very bad periods and she takes those pills whenever she is due on during a holiday, she swears by them.

I have an implant now so my period could come on the day, but they are not too heavy anyway so I am not overly worried about it but if I was still on the pill I would definitely double up the packets. I used to do that for 6 packs on the trot and then have a break and my GP said it was perfectly safe as periods on the pill are fake anyway so if you don't need to have one, apart from for your own peace of mind, then I think it is a great idea !!
