To bra or not to bra - that is the question...

MrsW-to-be, 17 October, 2013 at 12:43 Posted on Planning 0 20

At my fitting the lady in the shop said that as my dress had a very structured corest that I would be better not wearing a bra and that a bra could spoil the fit and how it sits slightly.

I tried it on without a bra and it felt okay, it needs taking in but when she pinned it I did feel very well supported but it still feels a bit strange not wearing a bra as it's not something I would usually consider.

To bra or not to bra?

xx

Depends entirely on the dress. I have a large bust but went braless because the dress held everything on its own.

Depends on the dress and how supported you feel. x

If the dress holds everything in, then I wouldn't worry about it.

If all is supported and you felt comfortable then no bra.

Agree with what everyone else has said. I have tried on dresses that didn't need a bra as very structured but also an asymmetrical dress that I just tucked one of the straps away.

I don't like wearing a bra - love those days when I don't have too Smiley smile so I wouldn't mind not wearing one.

I shall be braless. My dress would show it at the back if I wore one so there is no option. The seamstress is going to make cups in it for me.

I've got quite a smal chest so for me a bra give a bit of extra oomph!

    Thanks girls.

Think I just wanted a bit of reassurance that not wearing a bra wouldn't be an odd thing to do. Dress is very structured so I'm sure will hold everything in place - decision made ?

For me is not only the point of if the dress holds it is but does it also keep it "shaped"?

Sometimes dresses withno bra will leave big breasts like a "block" where wearing a dress make sure they are also shaped rather just supported.

I think it all depends how you feel on it bra or bra-less.

Go with makes you feel more comfortable and the prettiest!

I went braless but my seamstress sewed some cups into the dress to give me some extra support.

99.99% of the time in everyday life I go bra less... there so uncomfortable I dont know how anyone wears them (although I can see how having big boobs may require it in normal life) I certainly wouldn't if I didn't have to though

This. I'm flat chested so needed a little bit if padding.

I would love to go bra-less but 2 breastfed babies and 39 years of gravity have not been kind...annoyingly I'll have to wear a strapless bra as the cap sleeves on my dress are sheer. I haven't worn one in years and seem to remember they are desperately uncomfortable.

This is what I'm doing. And I think I will be hot enough in my dress without adding an extra layer of padding in there!

Sounds like for you the best option is no bra for that dress Smiley smile
I'll be wearing a strapless one just for the extra support but the bridal shop told me to take bra along i'll be wearing on actual wedding day to measure so i'm assuming will be fine with the dress I've chosen!
It will just feel a bit funny as it's what you're not used to, when you're having it altered etc you may get used to it, and if you don't you could maybe try and get a very discreet strapless one or something if you still feel uncomfortable? Smiley smile

Thank you for all of the replies girls.

I have my final fitting this Friday so I think I am going to try it without a bra as all of the alterations should have been done and it should be a better fit and hopefully supportive enough as it does have a very structured bodice and the wedding dress lady said the fit would look better without a bra so I'll see how I feel when I go for the last fitting this Friday.

My mate did recommend the wonderbra that is strapless and has like hands inside it for support but she said it took a bit of getting used to as it's quite bulky.

I think if I can get away with wearing no bra then that's probably the way forward as I have yet to find a comfortable strapless bra, they always make me feel squashed in at the top and like I've got a dent in the top of my boobies.

    xx

I tried this on with my dress when I went to my first fitting (my bridal store stocked them) - my dress wouldn't do up and I thought they'd ordered the wrong size (or I'd put on a shed load of weight without knowing)!!

Turns out it added an extra 4" to my bust! As someone who doesn't really need any help in that dept, I very quickly discarded it.

Kharv - in that case I won't be going down that road as want to make sure after the alterations my dress fits perfectly and an extra 4" being added would be out of the question!

Looks like I'm going to brave it without ?

    xx
