To Ebay or not to Ebay?

soon2bmrsg, 19 February, 2012 at 15:55 Posted on Planning 0 40

Afternoon all,

I have just found the wonderful world that is Ebay and I have had to stop myself and close the page down as I fear I may go overboard with it! I have ordered some nice cheap satin shoes and some crystals to jazz them up a bit(I spent about £1200 more on my dress than expected so needing to save money in other ways!)

Well what I was wondering having now looked at veils, tiaras and garters,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,What would you buy from Ebay and what do you think you shouldnt?

Look forward to opinions on this as this may cut the cost of my wedding big time ?

(Feel free to share any ebay bargains/disappointments)

?

I've bought quite a bit from ebay from table names through to a cake topper, velvet for favour boxes, the favour boxes and sparkly bits. I've tended to buy small things on ebay but i am thinking of getting my veil from there as there seem to be some good sellers about.

Its saved us at least £300 on various bits so far.

From ebay I have bought..... [clearsthroat]

    - Envelopes for our invites

    - Ribbon for our invites and orders of service

    - Cupcake pods for our favours

    - Cotton tape for the bunting

    - Some MAC make up

    - Bridesmaids dresses

    - Bridesmaids petticoats

    - Extra ribbon for their dresses

    - Cheap 'spare' bouquet for me to carry when I ride to the church (smaller than my proper one too so more manageable with reins!)

I will probably also end up buying:

    - Ties for the men (same price as hiring!)

    - Table confetti

    - Cheap costume jewellery for the bridesmaids just for the day (need chunky pearl bracelets and they don't wear bracelets everyday, or I'd have bought them the gorgeous ones from Louloubelle jewellery on here)

I've saved an absolute fortune so far. The BM dresses cost £30 each and pettis were £18 each, versus the £90 and £35 I found initially, so that in itself has saved me over £200! It's the little things that soon add up. We decided we wanted bunting, and the material cost £35 which was fine, but we didn't think about the cotton tape. Boyes was selling the width we wanted for 45p per meter which would have worked out at £90 for our 200m! Fortunately I got 230m worth for £30 in the end. I don't know how anyone ever did a wedding on a budget pre-ebay ?

So far I have bought off Ebay - materials for making bunting, vintage suitcases, ribbon, cards and other bits I cant remember!

I am buying my veil from Margaret, she was highly recommended on here and is really reasonable and I am planning on buying some Mrs * knickers to wear. I will probably buy more things too leading to the wedding!

See this is making me feel much better now, I was totally worried that I would be judged as some of my friends have a funny opinion on ebay as if your taking from a rubbish bin or something. But hey what they dont know cant hurt them!

Can you advise me Margaret's details for the veil as she is well recommended? Thanx

    This.

I get loads from eBay. It's a perfectly legitimate outlet for companies to gain mass exposure.

    From ebay I bought:

    Table crystals- China

Organza sashes to make pew end ribbons- China

    Butterfly shaped place names

    Vases for centrepieces

    Ribbon for invites

Hole punch to use on invites

Floralyte waterproof lights for inside centrepiece vases

Crystal accents- crystals you add water to, they turn to a jelly that looks like ice for the vases

    Elsewhere:

    Veil from Margaret

Favour boxes from poundland- 10p each last year

Circular mirrors for centrepieces- online company

Small glass candle holders to go on mirror- charity shop

The best advice is to look around & compare prices because you'd be surprised what you can find in lidl, aldi, poundland etc. I forgot, I also bought my wedding dress on ebay!

I bought veil, tiara, make up,table centres, envelopes, day invites, table plan, props for photo booth and paigeboy shirt and tie. Lets not forget my dress- the designer sold it through ebay as well- and clearly it was received well (second best awards in everything?!?!). Sod what everyone else thinks if it saves you money then do it.

I've bought a load of stuff too, invitations, envelopes, organza for decorations, wedding card post box, table crystals, bridesmaid dresses, favor boxes, favour sweets, cake topper, veil, shoes, wedding cake cupcake wrappers....... My wedding colours should be red blue white and green the amount I have spent on there. It has saved me sooooo much!! eBay all the way - who cares where you get it? If it is good quality and a bargain then good for us Smiley smile

I've just joined ebay this week and feel like the previous 14 months of planning I've been missing out! So far I've bought a giant jenga and a cake topper. I then started looking up other bits and bobs. I was surprised that some ribbon I was looking at in John Lewis was more expensive on ebay (but I'm sure there's an unbranded copy on there for half the price)

This is the seller we used for my mums wedding last year:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/zjlaura/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

Perfect transaction, made to measure. We gave our measurements and the dresses fitted like a glove - lined, boned - perfect. Cannot rave any more about how good they were. Her design is no longer avalible and wont let me add a photo for some reason ☹️

Ebay is great for anything you might need in bulk! I've bought decorations, card holders, candles, and etc. for incredible prices! But if you have time, check Etsy first. I've found things for surprisingly cheap prices and it feels nice to support lindependent vendors.

Ebay will save you so much money. We've even got our wedding rings off Ebay. £70 for both instead of the £400 EACH they would have been in the shops. They're the same quality too.

Come to think of it, my engagement ring was from Ebay too!

    Presents for bridal party

    Bridesmaid hairpieces

I absolutely love Ebay! The only thing is that I always check the amount of transactions of the seller and the reviews.
I have bought my flower girls dresses there and I'm really happy with them!
