To pipe or not to pipe that is the question

groomzilla, 8 July, 2011 at 15:59 Posted on Planning 0 16

Am Scottish so wearing a kilt and thinking about having a piper outside as guests arrive. Am from a small family and my beautiful B2B English as will be most of the guests.

Apparently quite a few English people find the sound of bagpipes quite distressing but it stirs my blood.

Any thoughts?

I'm Scottish - the sound of the pipes upset my mum so we're not having a piper, although i am very tempted to hire Clanadonia - Seen them on Buchanan Street in Glasgow and they're quite awesome!

Tbh I really dislike bagpipes BUT if I were going to a wedding where the groom was Scottish I would expect it (and I may even like it in a wedding situation).

Go for it...Just make sure that the Piper is really good. Nothing worse than someone murdering them...also make sure you pick the tunes they will play.

I think the only reason a lot of people don't like bagpipes is because they're so often played badly. If you've got a decent player then I think it would be a lovely idea. Personally I love the sound of them.

I agree with making sure you get a really good piper!! Earplugs could also make great favours LOL ? (kidding before I get lynched)

    PIPER!

I'm Scottish and the sound of pipes always gives me goosebumps.

A compromise would be to have them in the background so they there and can be heard but not so loud and annoying for the guests that don't like them.

I'm having a piper to pipe me down the isle and then pipe us back up the isle. He will be there to greet guests before hand 2!

Couldn't agree more but we tried to hire them but they cost £2500 for 40 mins!!!! Even they arent worth that in my book. As a compromise we had a drummer and a piper and loved every second.

If it means so much to you, hire them. I presume your B2B either likes or at least doesn't mind bagpipes?

I'm English, my partner is Welsh and we both really love the sound of bagpipes - we spend every New Year in Scotland.
