To veil or not to veil.

MetalBride, 21 April, 2017 at 09:40 Posted on Planning 0 10

With my dress being red not the traditional white, I was wondering if I should go with a veil. Originally I was dead set against one, but now I'm wondering if it will make me feel a little more bridal. What do you guys think?

Have you tried any on yet? I always thought I would really want veil but when I tried some on when I was looking for my dress it just felt a little bit odd & I am now really unsure about it.x

I usually always say veil but... I just don't know.

I think that yes, it may make you feel more Bridal. It made me feel a lot more special when I tried it on in the shop.

I think it could work with your dress if it was a shorter veil, but you'd need to try it on to see if it suited you Smiley smile

Failing that, a Birdcage veil would probably look AMAZING with a red dress for a more vintage-y vibe?

I was going to suggest a birdcage veil too- I think that would look amazing and give you the bridal 'feel' without detracting from your bold dress!

I always said 'no veil' then I tried one and loved it, so bought one.... now I'm wavering again- having made some back jewellery to 'finish' my dress I'm now not sure that I want to cover it up with a veil!!

I'm hopefully going to be wearing this, so I'm not sure a birdcage veil would work.

I had a birdcage and loved it. I kept it on all day and night too. Every time they tried to put a traditional veil on me when dress shopping it just didn't feel right. I don't know why but made me cringe lol! You can get coloured ones. I've seen red and black. Mine was from eBay and really cheap so you could get one to play around with.

The headpiece makes quite a statement on its own, I'm not sure you'd need a veil with that.

You could have a plain edge one tucked under your hair at the back if it's going to be up though? Then it wouldn't compete with your crown Smiley smile

I'm not sure anything can compete with the crown if it's half as good as it looks in the picture, she's also making me a matching necklace.

I didn't want one but I've borrowing my best friend's one to have her next to me in some way (because she's not a bridesmaid). I'm not putting it over my face and I'm super stressed about tripping on it haha!

Personally, between the crown and the necklace I think a veil might be too much. You're going to look bridal no matter what - because you're the bride! Try some on but don't put too much pressure on having to look 'bridal'.

I probably wouldn't bother. I'm having a cute bow in my hair instead of a hairpiece with a veil. It just doesn't feel very me, and everyone agrees that what I have is more fitting for me than pretending to be something I'm not by making it all formal. You do you ? Doesn't hurt to try one or two if you feel like you need to rule it out, but don't worry about it being the done thing for brides. You'll feel like a bride whatever you have on your head ? xx

I think I started to worry because I was asked will you feel happy with red because it's not very bridal, I was happy until that point so thank you all for your help. I might go and try some on and see how I feel then make up my mind x

You know what, Chinese brides traditionally do red for their dress / outfit! It's nothing wrong to wear red! It's festive and celebrating even it's a western gown!

If you do want a veil, a birdcage like the other B2Bs said is quite a good idea, provided that you're having that statement tiara and necklace. Then you won't have them covered and every piece can shine~
