Toddler bridemaids

chickien, 10 May, 2009 at 23:03 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi,

I hope someone can help me, it's my first post so please let me know if I have missed something out:o)

I asked three friends if their toddlers would like to be bridesmaid/flowergirls at our wedding at the end of June and they all said yes! They are all going to be around 18months old. When I asked them I had thought they would just sit with their parents through the ceremony and then have pictures taken with us afterwards, but now I am thinking should they actually be part of the ceremony and walk with me down the aisle or is that just asking for trouble?

Has anyone else had/got toddlers taking part in their ceremony???

Thanks for your help!

Claire

Do you have some adult BMs who could 'help' them walk down the aisle?

I think it depends on the child - my 22 month old goddaughter just wants to be with her mummy and at this stage might be OK with lots of encouragement but might not and just might want to run to her mummy! But then others would be fine. I think will that age group though you should have an open mind as things might not work out as planned on the day.

My little girl was flowegirl on Saturday and walked down before the Bride. Her Daddy was at the front of the church and she happily ran down towards him whilst I sat down after she had done her bit!

Sorry, but have to share a photo!!

My lil girl will be 13months when we get married, shes just on her feet standing now, Im hoping we can encourage her to walk within the next 7 weeks, it would be lovly :-) She has my sister to help guide her down the aisle also, otherwise she'll be getting carried or sat on the floor next the alter haha xx

My youngest bridesmaid was 4/5. She walked down the aisle following an older bridesmaid (10/11).

In fact, my eldest walked down first, then my middle one, then the youngest one. I had a 2 yr old (sister of my small flowergirl) but she was more an honoury flowergirl. She came in the photos but didn't do anything else, she was too small. We bought her a big cuddly white teddy to carry around, which she wasn't interested in, she only wanted her elder sister's bouquet.

Thank you so much for all your responses, they have been a great help!

I have decided to give them and their parents the option, if they want to walk down the aisle with me then that would be great, if not then that's okay too. Our wedding is going to be quite informal so don't think it should be a problem either way:o)

Think I just got a bit of a panic on about it lol, feel much more calm now!

    Thanks again,

    Claire
