TOG photos have arrived:-) Brief wedding report with lots of photos

RomanticEmeralds, 20 February, 2016 at 15:49 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi everyone,

first time back on here for a while (must admit I suffered from a mixture of post wedding and January blues so couldn't face popping back on here much). But we got our photos back during the week so I no longer have an excuse not to write a report Here goes .....

Background

Husband and I went to senior school together, however due to me moving away from the area first for uni and then for work we hadn't seen each other for 16 years. We have a mutual friend and all being big footie fans, our mutual friend suggested we go to a match together when I was home for a visit. Anyway to cut a long story short we got on like a house on fire and after 3 years long distance I moved back 'home' and we bought a house together.

Proposal

We had talked about getting married but Husband said he wanted us to live together for a year before we took any further steps. Anyway a year came and went but still no proposal. I was starting to get a bit grumpy about this but eventually, while away for a short break he proposed (down on one knee in a hot tub - he started to float off which made us both laugh). We didn't want a too long engagement so set a date for 14 months later).

The Big Day

I woke up after a good nights sleep, feeling very calm. I got up had a cup of tea with my Mam and then drove us both to the hairdressers for an 8:30 appointment. We met my sister and niece there. I was first in the chair followed by my mam then we had to leave to get back in time for the MUA arriving. My sister and niece joined us back at my parents house and we all got ready. The lady had just finished my make up when the TOG arrived, quickly followed by the florist and wedding car. Time to get into my dress, have a few photos taken and wait for the car to get back from dropping Mam off at the church. The weather was awful (Storm Frank) but I was really lucky because the rain stopped just long enough for me to get into the car.

As we got near the church I couldn't believe how many cars were parked up! The driver took the car up the church drive and as close to the door as possible because of the weather. My bridesmaids and the Vicar were waiting for me in the porch. The vicar spoke to me (can't remember what he said lol) then the music started and we walked into the church. As the door opened I saw two people and I remember thinking 'who on earth are they??' (turns out they were two of OH colleagues from work). As we walked up the aisle I tried to look at as many people as I could before looking at my OH waiting for me - I remember him sticking his tongue out at me which made a few people near him laugh.

The service was lovely. We had two hymns (lord of all hopefulness and the holly and the ivy) and two readings. The church looked beautiful and it was soooo full :-) We actually had two vicars share the service!!

The weather was too stormy to have photos taken outside (although we did manage to get a few in the church doorway and a couple with the car). But I love our church so didn't mind having our group photos taken inside at all.

After the group photos the guests left to make their way to the hotel while we stayed to have a few more pictures taken.

We then popped down to see OH Nanna in the nursing home (she wasn't well enough to come to the wedding but we wanted to have a photo taken with her).

Everyone was enjoying their arrival drinks and canapes when we arrived. I was quite overwhelmed with the number of guests milling around (sounds silly I know but seeing over 100 people together in quite a small area took me by surprise). We 'split' up and tried to speak to as many people as possible before we had to go into the reception room. This is actually harder than it sounds - trying to speak briefly to people then move on the the next group with out seeming rude is a bit of a social challenge lol. Anyway it was soon time to move through into the main reception room (which looked amazing). We had decided that we would do a meet and greet line up (despite a few reservations) but I am sooooooo pleased that we did because it meant we both got to speak to every single guest.

We had the speeches first and gave out the thank you gifts before having the meal. I hadn't eaten anything at all so I actually managed to eat quite a bit (although we were both a bit worried about cutting the carrots as the were quite crisp and the tomato sauce on the chicken was likely to splash).

After the meal the guests spread out, some went up to their rooms, others had a few drinks in the bar and a few left. We had some more photos taken and then went to enjoy the karaoke which my DJ cousin had arranged in the bar. Even my Oh sang a song!!

The band arrived to set up and soon it was time to cut the cake and do the first dance (Let there be Love by Nat King Cole).

We had a great time, as did our guests dancing away till midnight. The band were fab, they even got some of our guests up as backing singers. The day was everything we could have wished for (just a shame that we can't do it again).

I despaired of ever seeing that coat on lol. You looked gorgeous and all the stress paid off as it looked a beautiful day apart from gatecrasher Frank but at least he was polite when you needed to get in the car.

I can relate to post wedding January blues. I've cheered myself up by booking to go back to Lapland!

Lovely to finally see the pictures. I particularly love the black and white one of you chatting Smiley smile

    Xx
