honeysparkle, 9 February, 2012 at 14:49 Posted on Planning 0 25

I've recieved a quote for 2hrs TOG with 50-60 photos all on disc £150...this means almost nothing to me. To say i'm clueless is an understatment

How does this sound to you? x

Sounds reasonable, are you happy with their work and is the time enough to get all the photos you want?

I would say its OK but it all depends what you need. For example we knew we wanted a certain TOG, we knew we wanted the majority of the day covering etc tc. We are having from bridal prep right up to first dance and beyond if we choose, all copyrights on images, all images on disc, plus an album of 20 best shots for £950. It was over budget, but we found after research and other quotes we simply couldn't get what we needed for our budget so made savings elsewhere. Does that package meet your needs and do you like the TOGs work? Why not get a few other quotes too before deciding?

It sounds incredibly cheap to me. Especially bearing in mind that they won't be able to photograph another wedding on the same day.

Would you be happy with only two hours of coverage?

Suggest you read the welcome to wedding planning post at the top of the forum - this will explain most of what goes on!

    TOG - PhoTOGrapher

    WSS - what she said

To the OP - sounds reasonable as you're having just a couple of hours. Mine is £850 for a full 11/12 hours

Money wise that is very cheap especially as the post production venue visit etc takes up a lot of time. However the most important part is whether or not you like them and their work. Do you have a link? At the end of the day if they are not great and you don't love your photos you have still wasted £150!

It does sound too cheap IMHO. Although you are getting a disk, what post production are you getting and what resolution of image files??

I charge £749 for 4 hours, but if someone (local) was to approach me for a weekday wedding and didn't want any editing at all, just camera to disc then that sounds reasonable.

I'd never do it as I only deliver finished work, the editing time is 3 times longer than the shooting time.

I'd say that was exceptionally cheap. Like others, I would like to see his work, at that price I doubt he is much cop at all.

    Guys, it's two hours. TWO

    Average wedding 8-10 hours, 5 x 150 = £750

Considering most of the work takes place after the photos are taken is £750 for a shoot and burn (no editing) wedding still too cheap? I don't think it is.

I have never done this as my reputation is built on the end product which I like to have control of. It suits some togs purpose, and that is their choice, although it isn't something I would do as I always want to offer the couples the best of me....

I would ask if they are planning on shooting another wedding on that day to? Photographers who cram their day with many weddings are just asking for trouble.

I wouldn't want to provide totally unedited images on a disc.

I would hope that they weren't, as you're quite right, recipe for disaster!

The tog appears to be under cutting the market by quite a bit. Normally this is for one of the two reasons...1). He is not very good. 2). He is just starting out.

Be very careful hon. Make sure you see lots and lots of their work..... I agree with all of the above. You do normally get what you pay for. I know this doesn't help when you’re on a budget but sometimes you can't afford to not pay more and get someone who has a really good reputation. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks everyone for all the advise. think I'm just going to laugh it off tbh. I'm really not the photogenic type, I've been bm at a few weddings now and not one good picture of me. always got eyes closed or pulling faces ? everyone else always looks so good but not me so...I think I'll just not have any pics? x

Honey, that in my opinion is one of the massive differences between having a real professional photographer or not.

I've seen the efforts of myself and friends, some of whom are keen amateur photographers, and we'll all end up with awful photos of people with their eyes half closed, awful silly faces and horrible non-attractive angles.

I truely believe that an experienced professional will not be producing photos like that.

I attend a number of charity balls, and there is often a professional photographer there and his or her results are always perfect, never, ever any eyes shut.

At £150 for all the images on DVD I really don't see how the business can be making a profit ??

I would need to cover 40 weddings just to pay for my equipment alone ! Then there is all the insurance, CRB checks, Travelling costs, computing, stationary, media and associated utility costs, oh and the biggy....there is no profit out of that either !

Personally speaking, check out all their credentials such as insurance, number of weddings previously covered, how much experience have they, can they show you images from many weddings or just one or two, you know the kind of things I mean.

However, if they can do all the above, you like them and you like their style, you've got yourself a bargain !

    Hope that is of help.

I've just been quoted; pre wedding shoot, 8 hours coverage, all images on a disc (we want to do the album ourselves) £720. If we wanted a 2nd tog (to cover OH getting ready) then it would be an extra £150. We're really happy with this, the guy is very local & his website is very straight talking with none of that over the top sickly sweet talk. He's also come highly recommended.

Ours is identical to the above.

I wouldn't want unedited pictures, you'd be better asking a friend to take some and not pay anything at that rate.

I also think if you go without *any* pictures you'll regret it later on. Prehaps see who you can get with an established business locally just for service and after shots. But 2mths notice isn't a lot of notice, photographers, along with cars & venue are usually the first thing people book when they decide to marry.

    Goodluck ?

The trouble with pricing is there's a very broad definition of the term 'edited'.

Gracefly's quote at 1150 for 50 images seems silly on the surface but the images may be edited at the extreme end to an extreme standard.

Other prices quotes may involve making sure the brightness and colours are balanced and that the image is straight.

Unedited images as in straight from the camera are neer a good idea. I wouldn't personally consider them a finished, deliverable product.
