Tog recommendations

monkeynutter, 4 February, 2013 at 00:34 Posted on Planning 0 9

Does anybody recommend anyone in the West Sussex (gatwick) area?

I'm preferably looking for someone under the £1000 mark to cover at least waiting/arrival at the ceremony (although some preperation would be good) through to after the first dance.

The only ones I seem able to find are either way out of our price range or way below (which concerns me a little...why are they so cheap?!)

My head is fuzzy so recommendations appreciated!!

The good news is that your enquiring early, as August is a busy month. However togs that are within budget this year may be a little over next year.

It may be helpful to widen the net, rather than only considering togs in your local area, most togs are prepared to travel.

Is there any style of photography your prefer, e.g. traditional/reportage/editorial or a mix of them all?

We don't mind spending a little over for the right photographer.

I really like contemporary but with a mix of traditional in there too. So far none I have looked at have jumped out at me.

Have any expensive ones that are over your budget jumped out at you?

If so, it may be helpful to know which ones. Hitchers may then be able to recommend togs with similar style but that are reasonably within budget.

Hi Monkeynutter, if you like my style of photography I would love to hear more about your day. My website link is in my signature and I travel all over.

I would recommend either Dominic Whiten, who really stuck in my mind as one of the best photographers I have worked with as another wedding supplier. Really professional, beautiful pictures, lots of research done on the venue in advance and generally a lovely bloke (and I have no affiliation with him in any way!). https://www.dominicwhitenweddings.co.uk/blog/

I would also recommend amazing husband and wife team Foden photography, https://fodenphotography.com/ They are the nicest people and would make you feel really relaxed. They came round to our house to take our baby pictures and were brilliant fun! They are also pretty local, comiong from Purley.

    Hope that helps. Good luck!!

    I'm in Sussex.

Might not be able to do under £1000 though. I do have a thing going on right now where I'll take £400 off if you do your own editing, this would definitely take me under a grand.

Don't be afraid to keep looking around, you still have plenty of time. I think when you see one that catches your eye ypu'll know they're right for you. Perhaps a good shout is to go for directories, then you can skim browse through lots of photographers quickly to see if anyone takes your fancy. Just google UK wedding photographer directory and plenty will come up! If you do find one you like that's out of budget, feel free to post it here and people will be able to help.

It's fair enough to question why a photographer would be super cheap, I'm in that category, but I have a real reason for it, it might mean I'm not right for some people, but it doesn't mean there's anything specifically wrong or dodgy about me! I'd say don't discount someone for being too cheap, there's plenty of OM here who've used budget togs with good experience, judge them for their work primarily, worry about price second.

Prices vary for different reasons. Some at the lower end may not possibly have insurance, back up equipment(vital) or experience, although they may be not bad photographers.....albeit with a potential risk. Some togs rely solely on weddings and have to make enough from the fri-sunday earning zone when most weddings happen. Some blend weddings with other image creation roles..throughout the week...(I have a healthy corporate side that allows me to keep my wedding prices couple friendly)

My advice is to be lead by photography style and not price. (sounds obvious although often this goes wrong with some couples) If you look at a togs images and wish that they were you in the pix, you have probably found the right photographer....
