TOG taking the michael....

a_white_izzy, 7 December, 2011 at 11:01 Posted on Planning 0 16

We've been married over 3 months now and have still not received our album yet which we've already paid for. He's been rubbish at getting back to my emails and calls. We've seen the photos on a dvd and chosen the ones we want but that was over a month ago. How long does it usually take? How long did you OM's wait for your album and dics?

? So juvenile of me, but that really made me laugh!!

Sorry I can't help because I'm not an OM, but 3 months is a long time! I think I'd be more annoyed at the lack of communication though. Could you try calling him again and finding out how much longer it's going to take. This time of year, you'd think he'd have more time to sort the photos out!

We got married at the beginning of October and received our album at the end of March.

Did you agree a timeframe for delivery of the album in advance? if not then i don't think you can complain (except about the lack of communication which is bad)

We got married 1st Oct, and still haven't had our album. We don't even have a disc with the photos on - just a website to see them. Tog is a friend of H's so he is adverse to mentioning it to him.

So it seems that it can take a long time then? I didn't realise that. Well I guess I'll just have to hang on until it arrives.

    Cheers guys.

December tends to be a bit of a slow time of year, 1 company i know off closes on the 23rd of December and wont open again until the 16th of Jan and will take them a week to get back in to the process again so that is practically a month where nothing happens.

are you seeing a proof before they produce the album?

What does it say in your contract with regards to turn around? Or what did you agree verbally with your photographer beforehand?

Usually, we get images back to couples within 10 days. After that, it's down to them to choose the pictures, which tends to take the most time!

When pictures are chosen, it will take up to 3 weeks for us to get our albums back. We tell couples it can take up to 1 month, just to allow for unforeseen delays, postal hold ups etc. Usually however, the whole thing will be completed within 3 weeks.

Your photographer should be keeping in touch with you though and should definitely be replying to your messages. I'd email or call again asking for an update.

There was never a contract, nor did he mention any time scale of when we would receive our photos and not really knowing about this kind of thing I never thought to ask, I just assumed that as we paid him in full before the wedding, that they would at least be here before christmas. The proof for photos took 2 months to get to us and I had to ring him many times to find out when we would receive this and kept getting told he was busy and to call back to find out when the proofs would be ready for us to choose our photos. We my mother had to collect them and then she had to post them to us as we live in a different city, and admittedly we took 2 weeks to email him with out choices but after sending the email with out requests on, I then heard no thing for 3 weeks until I emailed him to ask if he'd received the email and then he told me he had but would be out of the studio for a week and would contact me when he returned regarding my album. that was last week and now if you are all telling me that over xmas places shut, then its likely to be after that that we get our photos.

I just feel his lack of communication has made us feel that our photos which were paid for back in July are the least of his concerns. I also never realised that it took so long based on friends and family who have had weddings and got their photos back much quicker.

The key thing is that the date the album was ordered rather than when the wedding took place. As mentioned by others, this can be several weeks dependent on which album and album type that you have gone for, as they are often imported from Italy or down under.. This can easily take longer in some instances than the timeframe of just over a month.

That all said, keeping the client updated is important.

We haven't even been shown what type of album we are going to get! All he's said is its the basic package. (I have seen a friends album which he did that is a photos in a book type thing and am happy to have as we only had a budget of £650 for our photos that but he doesn't know that I've seen that.)

Albums take 6 weeks to produce from when sent to the supplier, Graphistudio is an example. This doesn't include design time.

£650 is really cheap for coverage and an album. If this is typical they may not be full time togs and thus have a limited amount of time to do weddings, work, support a family, edit photos, design albums etc....

Some take a year. Not having a contract is worrying but unsurprising at that price point I'm sorry to say.

    Did you pay cash?

He has his own studio so I assume it is his career and we paid by cheque.

I guess I will have to see if he gets back to me this week and what is happening with our album (I'm not even sure if it has been ordered).

Just thought I'd update, I've still not heard anything. I emailed him 2 days ago asking where things are with the album. Heard nothing so far. I just feel a bit like its at the back of my mind an when it finally comes people will have forgotten about the wedding and not be bothered as its been so long. We were never told it could take so long and the people who recommended him to us said they only waited 4 weeks for their album which is the same one as we are having (I assume as we've never been shown what we will have but have paid more but requested the basic album).
