TOG's - wedding albums?

SillyWrong, 29 September, 2014 at 13:45 Posted on Planning 0 8

The package I got with my TOG was images on disk, could you tell me please approximately what we'd be looking cost wise to get albums done afterwards (which was always our plan) We're thinking a (relatively) basic one for mums and dads and then a full one for us.

Thanks Smiley smile

Our photographer charged a small fortune for an album - depending on the type you got it was around £800. I'm sure they are beautiful but I decided to look elsewhere. I found http://www.bobbooks.co.uk/ and got two photobooks made for my mother and the in-laws. They came out great- really lovely printing and I got them for £50 each! Now I've tested on their print run, I'm going to order our albums from here as similar photobooks with the better quality paper/print. I liked that I got to pick all the photos and edited the book and I'm not sure how much involvement you get with your Tog's album process.

Thank you - I was thinking about looking in to doing it myself, but thought I'd just find out about the pro ones. I'm no so bothered about leather bound etc - I just want a nice book of photos!

They are fairly expensive but in theory save a lot of stress. Unless you end up like me and they send you a black album when you asked for a pale grey ? now got to send it back...

The quality is brilliant though and my lovely photographer sorted it all for me and still is Smiley smile Cost varies depending on what you are after I guess.

P.S 6 days to go?!?!?!? How did THAT happen!!? ?

That's the thing with some of the pro albums, they are going to last a lot longer and that's why they cost more. I saw one of my clients post on twitter, she said she has given up trying to design her own album and she had been at it for 5 days already?. If you have the time and knowledge then do it, it does take a lot of time to design albums and the quality from some of the pro album makers are astounding but not all pro album makers are the same. Some of my albums cost me anything up to £1000, eye watering isn't it?

Albums can cost as little as £40 and as much as £1200. It all depends on who you get them from and the quality.

Rightly or wrongly, a lot of the top end professional albums are only available to professional photographers.

The main thing to realise though is to design a good looking album isn't as easy as it sounds and you can easily spend hours and hours. You really need to factor in that time too.

I often say that images on a disk is fine and if you are on a budget then go for images on a disk with the best photographer you can find. It's better to get an album later and fill it with great photos than order an album earlier, compromise on the photographer and fill it with mediocre images. But I have to say that printed albums do absolutely transform your wedding photographs and you can tell the story of your day in much less photographs.

You get what you pay for, a Photobox deluxe is £100, a Queensberry Musee £3000.

Generally people price albums to sell otherwise there's no point in offering them.
