Too eager?

AKirby92, 31 July, 2013 at 12:11 Posted on Planning 0 28

Hi all!

I'm new to Hitched and new to being engaged!

Me and my OH aren't getting married until 2015, I just wanted some opinions on whether or not it's way too early to start planning yet?

I'm wayyy too excited to get into it and I think I may be getting ahead of myself!!

Any advice on any topics would be extremely appreciated! Smiley smile

Congratulations and welcome to hitched ?

There are lots of 2015 brides on here and I wouldn't of thought it's too early to book the big stuff like venue and photographer.

    Congrats and welcome!

My friend is getting married in 2015 and some venues are already booking up for the summer months. I'd say start looking for the venue and the photographer now then relax for a bit Smiley smile (But keep browsing and collecting ideas, obviously!).

    Welcome,

Im getting married in 2015 too, May 3rd to be exact.

Iv already booked my venue and i'm looking at photographers. when i went to book my venue they had loads of dates already booked. So im glad we were able to get something we were happy with. Iv already started making my save the dates,i know you need to send them out usually a year before but because we are getting married out of town and on a sunday we are going to send them out soon so people can book time with their work. i know my guests need to give a lot of notice.

Do you have any ideas of what style of wedding you want and your guest list size? that will help with your venue choices

    xx

I agree with Kharv. A lady on here couldn't get the venue she wanted until 2016 so I'd look into that if you had an ideal date in mind. I've got bookings for 2015 so it might be advisable to book them too if you have your eye on someone. If you are flexible on these things then you have a bit of time.

Congrats & welcome - we look forward to hearing all about your plans! It's never too early to start planning, just browse first though - don't rush in to booking things too early in case you change your mind. Have a look on pinterest and the wedding planning sections on here for guides on when to do stuff etc. There's lots of help out there!

    Congratulations and welcome! ?

Def not too early, if you book venue / tog early enough you'll often get them for this year's prices rather than the marked up 2015 prices.

Plus if you have more time to plan, the less stressful it should be.

    Happy planning!

Wow! Thank you for all the responses! And the Congrats Smiley smile
God it's all so scary and real!! Haha!

Dreamysmiles, I don't really have many ideas yet! All I know is that it mainly will depend on what sort of dress I choose, whether its vintage style or modern etc. My guestlist is very difficult for me, my family is huge (irish!!) and while I'd love to invite all of them I don't think my budget will allow for such a huge wedding! So I think it's going to take a while to get a set number Smiley sad I think this is gonna have to be my first task! Eeeek!

Great idea about Pinterest, t4yt0! I've only ever used it before for fashion etc, gotta get making a Wedding Board now!

To those who mentioned photographers thank you! I completely forgot about things like that! A major to-do list is in order I think!

    Thanks Smiley laugh

Sit down and work out what you can afford (if you haven't already).

Then I definitely think you should look in to venues first. My venue gets booked up about a year and half in advance although they do have some spare dates it just means you have far less choice.

Then research what style pics you want an photographer and book when you've found someone you like. They are the main things that get booked up quickly in my experience.

Good thing about Hitched is it's a good place to talk to other brides (and grooms) and get ideas for your wedding. It's also a fantastic outlet wedding wise so you don't bore your friends and family rigid talking about your wedding between now and then! You can talk till the cows come home on here!!

    Welcome to hitched and congratulations!!!

Venues and photographers are the main things to book first, we are booking well in to 2015 with some in to 2016.

Never too early!! I started my planning 25 months in advance and now i am 8 months away and have most things sorted. Everything so far has been easygoing and no stress at all.

I'm sure the 'pleny of time' attitude will run out in the end but so far so good Smiley smile

    Congratulations!

I agree with everyone else that it's not too early to start planning, especially if you have a specific date and venue in mind as they can get booked up quickly. We booked our venue at the beginning of this year for August 2015 as its fully booked for 13 and 14! Happy planning Smiley smile

Congratulations on your Engagement and welcome to Confetti Smiley smile

It's hard not to get excited and start planning and being organised can have some pros. You have better chance at nabbing your favourite suppliers as well as venue etc and if you book early some vendors honor pricing so could get yourself some bargains too!

If you haven't already joined Pintrest is an amazing wealth of ideas!

    Have fun planning Smiley smile

There's no harm in looking, but you might find some venues will only book X far in advance etc., same with some suppliers. It's probably worth building up an idea of what you want so that at least the difficult decisions have been made like do you want a big or small wedding, what kind of venue, like a barn or registry office or church etc. etc. with regards to the dress I think if you find a corker it's possible to get it, just watch out for size fluctuation between now and 2015. Hope that helps!

    Hello and welcome Smiley smile

I definitely don't think it's too early to start planning - some venues will be taking bookings already for 2015, especially if you know what sort of venue you're after and whether it's popular. I think you could start looking at styles of dresses you like just to wet your appetite - once you've secured date and venue I think after that definitely searching for a photographer is the next step - or just finding what sort of style you like and having a look around to see what's out there Smiley smile

    Firstly Welcome to Hitched!

Never to early like all the ladies have said!

I am a Jan 2015 bride, and so far Ive booked the church, reception primarily booked photographer and have bridesmaid dresses!

I want to book all the big things by the end of this year and then have a year to plan the little things. I am also enjoying looking at ideas and gathering info (these lovely ladies help a lot!) and enjoying the experience!

    Hi AKirby

Love this post - I put practically the same thing on here just a couple of weeks ago. I too am new, got engaged on Valentine's Day, and I'm looking at a 2015 wedding.

The majority of replies to my post were, "no you're not too eager". I've been advised that I've a better chance of getting the things I want by getting started early. We are just starting to look at venues (got our first viewings this week) despite being engaged since February - but I have been gathering ideas since then.

I look forward to hearing all about your plans over the next two years! Do you have any dates in mind, perhaps we will be date twins?!

Hi there .! Congratulations and welcome to hitched!

Im a 2014 bride and started planning at the 2 year mark and I'm glad that I did! My friend is also getting married July 2015 and has booked her venue and registrar now as it was the only day left!! It's better to be too early than too late, especially if you know it's what you want!! Book the big things that you know you love and leave the smaller things for a little later. A word of advice though...if you're making your own invitations, make sure there's plenty enough time to do them all...I wish I'd started a little earlier and still got 6 months to complete 100!! Slightly daunting task but I'm sure ill be well chuffed when they're all completed Smiley smile

    Happy planning!!

    Hey,

I am new to Hitched too and am really happy with the support that everyone has been sending my way with posts etc. It is also nice to see that there are many others, including yourself, getting married in 2015. I am getting married in October 2015 and have booked my venue and caterer. There are other things that cannot be done/booked until the two year mark, such as wedding insurance and your registrar.

A couple of things I would start off by doing are:

Budget planning - see the helpful planner that Hitched has and add anything else you think you may need. This will help the second point-

A priority list - write down a list of all of the things that you would like in your wedding and see what things are most important to you as a couple. For some people it may be the venue, for some it may be the rings and for others it may the entertainment. Either way, I think once you have an idea of what is most important to you, you can see where you want to spend your money and where you want to cut back.

Look for potential venues, photographers, florists and bands. These seem to be booked up most in advance.

Create moodboards, scrapbooks etc and look online at this site, Pinterest and magazines to get an idea of your colour scheme, theme etc.

I hope this helps...anything else that I have missed will hopefully be picked out by others Smiley laugh

    Happy planning...

I genuinely love this site already!! Thanks so much for everyones answers and advice! I've written a lot of it down, and I'm so grateful Smiley smile

Siobhan200286 - We don't have a date as of yet, we have to wait for his family to set it for us! (Some crazy Chinese tradition!) I find out sometime in the next week, so I'm soooo nervous!!!

I'm sure i'll be posting regularly after that!

Thanks again to all of you!

    Much love! XX
