Too early to dress shop...

Becklarrr, 9 August, 2012 at 11:42 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hi girls

So I have just booked my wedding venue *excited is an understatement* for May 2014, which is obviously a long way off! Is it too early to start looking at wedding dresses or is it never too early? Any when would be the best time to look for BM dresses, i was thinking January sales lol!!! x

    Hi,

I'm booked for March 2014 and I'm so paranoid that if I go dress shopping too early I will constantly wonder if I have picked the right dress as so much can change over time.

I'm thinking of going dress shopping about a year before the big day so then there's plenty of time for alterations and finding accessories, bridesmaids dressess etc to compliment the dress.

I always wonder what time is best for dress shopping and whether I am planning on going too early or too late so maybe some others may have better ideas than me and can advise me also?

I can'y wait to go dress shopping though, it'll be hard work waiting!!

    What date in May?

I'm 23rd May 2014, and probably won't be dress shopping until May 2013. I made the mistake of going to a dress shop for inspiration, and fell in love with a dress. If it's still there next year, then I guess it's fate. But I wish I hadn't gone, cause I lost a lot of sleep for about a week thinking about it!

I went about a year n half, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise as my dress was almost double to what I budgeted for it so this gave me more time to get the extra money together! Saying that I have had to wait an age till my dress fitting which is in 3 weeks!!

I'm also getting married March 2014 but waiting until March 2013 to start looking for 'THE' Dress!! I have been all over the Internet searching different designers to find out what I like... although that might change by next year! x

I'm in September 2014, browsing at the moment online but not visiting shops. Will probably leave it until about 12 months before starting a proper hunt. So many things can change during that time and I change my mind alot!!

So close to having a date twin! I think 24th May is quite popular day!

Is there anything else you can do planning wise to keep your mind off of searching for a dress?

To be honest if you want to try on dresses I'd go for it! You don't have to make a decision right now, and it's fun! Although, if you wanted to lose a lot of weight I'd say maybe wait a little? Completely up to you though ?

It's taken me longer than I thought to find a dress, so I'm glad I looked early! Also what I thought I wanted didn't suit me, so I'd definitely recommend going and trying on all shapes and sizes. Enjoy!

I'm August 2014 and i'm heading to my fourth shop tomorrow...Im finding I'm very fussy and A LOT of dresses take 6-9 months to make so if you only go a year before you don't have long if you fallin love with a dress that takes 9 months....I would say 18 months before is perfect....I'm going early but who cares... If I find the perfect dress then it's meant to be x

I bought my dress 2 years before the wedding, I haven't tried any more on since just in case but I can honestly say I haven't seen one that I love more. It's certainly never to early to try them on!

Another 2014 bride here ? I'm going to start looking in January, and get married June 2014. I know a lot of other ladies getting married in 2014 who already have their dresses, so go whenever you want!

Exacty smazzy, everyone is different so everyone goes shopping at different times. I just know what I'll be like & I'll always be wondering if there's something I'd love more out there... That's just me though :-)

I ordered my dress in March this year for our August 2013 wedding, so nearly 18 months in advance. It came in a few weeks ago, and I love it so much, but I also want a few little tweaks to it, so there's plenty of time to do that. When I was ordering my dress, the woman said that they'd been having some August 2013 dresses in that week! So they must have ordered it around September/October last year lol. I think it's just when it feels right for you, I was itching to try some dresses on, so me and my Mom went to just get an idea of styles and ended up getting my dress that day ?

You're all making me change my mind on the year to go: look for a dress plan. Maybe I'll start looking at the end of the summer for March 2014.... Any excuse! Haha

I would go to look at dresses between 18 months and 20 months before the big day... so many dresses take a while to come in! My friend was told that hers would be in the shop in 3 months. She didnt actually get to try her dress on again until 2 weeks before she went to Las Vegas to get married! there wasnt much time to change it if she didnt like it or it didnt fit!

I've had mine for over a year now and my wedding isnt until the 15th June 2013!

It really is personal choice but if you are purchasing from a wedding shop I would go sooner so you have time to change your mind and decide, etc. and then you also have long enough in between so you arent in a hurry before the wedding ?
