Too eclectic?

Missbrain4now, 3 January, 2014 at 10:14 Posted on Planning 0 13

I am so confused with all this theme talk and my moh says I am adding too much :/ I just don't understand why I need to have a specific theme and can't take aspects I like.

Firstly my colour scheme I am loving the royal blue and orange idea... Blue main but accents of orange like the flowers she doesn't think they go but I love it and not just cause I love irn bru.

My centrepieces are silver candleabras tho thinking of adding some orange flowers to these and will have blue chair bows...

I bought a rustic frame for putting the seating plan on with luggage tags and I have chalkboard stands for table numbers.

Also liking idea of DIY tins for the outside area to light tables

I thought I could incorporate butterfly's by having them designed in my tins and butterfly decorations in my colours on tables and on the pegs that hold my luggage tag table plan.

Also thinking of making flower garlands for the outside area in the colours

Guess it's a bright butterfly rustic theme following my traditional church wedding

Do you all think if I run the themes together I can pull it off or is she right and it's going to be too much?

(some other ideas I have are DIY charlk wine glasses for place settings for the top table, some DIY Wooden signs and butterfly bunting in wedding colours)

Originally I had been going to go elegant blue n silver but i'm more bold than elegant lol

Looks like you have sort of a theme without actually starting out with one in mind --rustic/ vintage?? if you want to name it, the thing with themes is that some people find that it helps them decide how to decorate etc, but you don't have a problem as you know what you want, you don't have to have a set theme its just some people find it can help with their decisions.

Sounds lovely to me! I quite like the shabby chic look which I think kind of matches some parts of your scheme but the colours tend to be more pastelly so if you want bold go for it! It's difficult to invisage what things will look like until you've got a few bits so maybe your MOH will see your 'vision' a bit more when you've got some stuff. Do you use Pinterest? It's great to get an idea of what sort of things you like.

Blue, silver and orange sounds awesome - summery, rustic - is there anything such as 'too eclectic'? Smiley smile

we're having turquoise, blood red, and some racing green - the place is going to be drowning in it but I don't care

Your colour choices sound lovely. Had a quick look on Pinterest and there are loads of ideas here.

I would go for it with all your ideas. It doesn't sound too much at all and you'll be surprised when they are all together.

Honestly? Don't worry what anyone else thinks. Do what you live and reflects you two as a couple. We had a right old mishmash and it looked awesome. Don't try to please others with your wedding.

I rather like eclectic and don't think your ideas sound too eclectic at all - they all sound great! If you fill your day with the things that you love then you'll love the look of your day (so long as your OH loves them as well of course!). You've got your colours sorted and that's what people will notice more than the style of things. I spent the first eight months of my engagement ruthlessly looking for a theme (just because I thought I should have one) and then eventually I gave up and decided to go with what we love instead - it's been so much easier to make decisions and I know that our day (and yours!) will be filled with things that we love to look at.

Don't worry about what anyone else says, stick to what you want! My mum initially put me off my beach theme as she 'didn't see me as beach person', but it grew on her.. Sometimes the theme doesn't sound as good when you describe it to people as what your actual vision looks like.....even I think my purple, England/Wales, beach theme, with maybe a bit of yellow added in too sounds crazy!

if you like all the parts and colours you want, go for it. If you've not got Pinterest, why not start a board with pictures of all your ideas to see if it works well - and more importantly to show the doubters!

Sounds lovely to me too! Flashes are in order I think ?

Mine went from blue and ivory with flowers here and there to blue carafes, glasses, votives, with ivory rose balls and butterflies in the rest of the available space. Not to mention sashes and bird cage candle holders.....

I think royal blue and orange look awesome together:

Like Mini said, your wedding should reflect you and your H2B, screw what anyone else thinks.

Sounds great, if you go with what you like I think it will tend to all come together and look right on the day anyway (that's what I'm hoping for anyway!). I feel like I'm mixing lots of colours and themes too, but I'm hoping it will all complement each other in the end to. There's a mix of lilac, dark purple, silver and little bits of dark blue, and we've got some vintage-y style bits, some wooden/rustic and some that I'd say are more shabby-chic but I think (hope) that as it's all stuff we like it will all fall in to place. I love the sound of royal blue, orange and silver though!

If you like it, go for it!

I've only gone for a theme as it helps with dressing the marquee in a way that I was happy with. I also only really wear pink and black and my cousin's wedding last year was pink, black and orange themed, so I didn't really want to do that again! Smiley smile

We don't have a theme, our wedding is just full of things we like and it's all sort of come together naturally. Someone said it was 'chic country style' which sort of describes it!

Just go with what you feel x

I think it all sounds great and you will love it which is the most important thing ;-)

We are having a grey and yellow as our colours, a bit of a seaside theme and also some fifties inspiration, so a bit of a mish mash!
