Top table

#MrsF, 26 October, 2013 at 22:58 Posted on Planning 0 7

Who are/have you had on the top table if parents are separated and have new partners?? My OH wants to have both his mum &step dad and his dad & his partner, think this will be a little much and look uneven, his parents get on well and the traditional way of setting out the top table they wouldn't actually need to sit next to each other anyway!

Totally agree it will be too much! Seat the new partners with people they know well and just have the parents on the top table.

How many people would that mean would be on your top table?

We are having 10 and I don't think it's too much.

My Mum & Dad will be at the top table, OH's Mum will be at the top table but her partner won't be, he'll be sitting with OH's sister.
I agree it would be too much and would sit them with people they are comfortable with.

We are doing away with the top table completely. Neither of us has our dad any more and he has groomsmen rather than a best man. I also don;t want to be sat in a line when everyone else is on a much more sociable round table.

Would that be an option for you? To have close friends with you instead and parents/ step parents on two diff tables? I have seen that at a few weddings now. I am not sure the new partners would appreciate being separated for the meal.

We aren't having a top table, we're sitting with the other guests, I feel more comfortable that way and it's more sociable.

I think have who ever you feel most comfortable with at your table, if you can fit them all and it's what you want go for it.

I'm having my step parents because they've been my step parents for as long as I can remember - I would put it down to your relationships and if you actually want to sit with them, I don't think it's 'too much' though x

It was similar for my couple last week so they just had the bridal party on the top table and parents sat with family.

My step-mum would be so upset to be excluded like that, but I guess it depends on your relationship etc. We are not having a top table as our families don't know eachother and it would just be really awkward. We are all sitting on one long table in family/friendship groups.
