Top Table Advice...

MrsF2Bee, 2 July, 2014 at 16:42 Posted on Planning 0 4

I'm undecided the type of top table to have?
Part of me wants a traditional wedding so with a traditional top table.. however I don't really get along with my dad perfectly well, and his partner would be alone on a 'normal' table also I'm not having a MOH so would need to pick a BM.

We're having just us, my BMs x 3 and ushers x 3. Reason being is OHs parents have remarried so it would be a bit uncomfortable. Each parent group will host their own table. Lots of people do this nowadays!

We're having a top table with just us and our parents they will sit next to their husband/wife we've also decided the best man can sit with his wife and children on a normal table close to us for speech purposes and our bridesmaids are our children so they will sit with family and friends Smiley smile

We're having round tables and a long top table. We've decided to have us, my parents and his dad (and possibly guest, his mum isn't coming) then we have bridesmaids, best man and brother with other halves on the closest round table. We figured that made the most sense as they wouldn't have wanted to sit on different tables to their partners, and we wanted them all together

We're leaning towards having a sweetheart table (just me and OH) as his parents are divorced and think itd be awkward working out the seating. Like the each parent group host their own table idea, might use that. Bridesmaids etc can go sit with their partners this way too

My brother had a sweetie table when he married. I KINDA get it as both his parents (we're half sibling) had split up and with new partners, as were my SILs and it stops the "pressure" of who to have and not to have. I personally couldnt do this, but its only because we are fortunate enough to have both parents still together AND we both get on very with the in-laws respectively (thats our top table - long with the 6 of us).

WHilst I am all for "non traditional" as much as I am "traditional" I do not like the whole "we will be on a round table just like every one else". Enjoy the fact that everyone here is to celebrate YOU as a pair! You're not like everyone else, not for today! Smiley winking
