I am rather pondering if that might not indeed be the case.

RTD is shockingly derivative, and tonight I was strongly reminded of another Sci-Fi ...errr... thing... Which did not end well....

Can't see any way back from that.

    RIP Torchwood.

Blake's 7 managed several series without Blake....

That was a dangerous rip-off of Jed Mercurio's Invasion Earth BTW.

Could have done without that last "6 months later" bit imho, other than that brilliant as a whole. Uncomfortable at times but brilliant

Don't get me wrong, that was the most enjoyable UK produced Sci-Fi I've seen in years. But really.... I admit I'm nerdish, but not ridiculously so, and the numer of *homages* in that story just isn't funny.

The only original elements are those of a non sci-fi nature, and even there, Queer As Folk's dramatic ears must have been burning at times.

Bloody hell that was horrible. Not good watching for the woman with young school age kids. I sobbed.

Frobisher was forced into giving his daughters up for "innoculation" so shot himself and his family instead.

Army moved in to round up kids, very traumatic scenes of children being dragged away from parents.

jack, sciency man and evil govt woman get together to try and stop the 456. Solution is to use jack's grandson to channel a frequency back at them, knowing it will kill him.

gwen and Reece try to save Ianto's neice and nephew.

Frfobisher s seretary used the contact lens to get revenge on prime minister.

ack dissapears for six months then meets with Gwen to say goodbye and heads off into space, never to be seen again...?

Same here. I've been watching it all week and I know it's not real...but it really made my blood run cold when they started taking the children.

I found it really disturbing at the end. I sobbed too. I'm wondering if I actually wish I'd not seen it.

Glad I didn't watch then - separating parents and children hits right at my core neuroses ?

I found it uncomfortable, disturbing, heartbreaking and brilliant all at the same. One of the best programmes I have watched in a long time

Wow- that was really good and upsetting and grim and horiffic and tense. So it seems RTD can write some gritty stuff.

I hated it. I watch Torchwood for a bit of light relief. The cheesy factor is a big pull for me usually.

I ended up feeling horrific after watching last night - not one happy note really, was there? Sure the world was saved but we knew that would happen - but all those deaths, those traumatic scenes of the children being taken and Jack disappearing off for all eternity. Rubbish.

And I thought Gwen had met the DR at the end of the last DR Who series? So where does these episodes of Torchwood fit in to that then?

I thought it was very good and especially enjoyed watching it over the week instead of weekly. It was one of those endings that haunts you a bit and was a bit uncomfortable when H switched over to BB. Is this the end will there be anymore Torchwood. i tried to Google but the Torchwood forum had been hacked the night before.

I thought it was bloody brilliant. Some bits were predictable, but other bits totally weren't, and stopped you feeling smug and clever because you had guessed the obvious plot-lines. It was so dark in parts, and so moving. And so well done.

I'm fairly certain it will be back though. I watched Torchwood Declassified, and though they didn't say anything about it coming back, there was definitely that impression.

I sat and watched it all in 1 go last night, really really enjoyed it, i have 2 young(ish) kids and it was hard watching (forbisher shooting his children washeart wrencing and cleverly done)

i reckon they have left it open for another series- with evil black leathers lady turned good, gwen and possibly the civil servant man. they left too many teasers open- his daughter for one.

and i thought it was really well acted, john barrowman was ace.

was very uncomfortable to watch and is one of those things that has stayed with me all day iyswim!

ONE have you heard anything about a blake 7 remake? somebody at work mentioned it (im quite excited about the day of the triffid remake as ive just watched the original again and its still blimmin scary) i was bought up on blake 7 (well any sci fi tbh, blake, tripods, star trek-every series) so im a proper sci fi fan.

    Jack doesn't disappear forever...

There was an episode in Doctor Who when Martha was the assistant as to who Jack became......

I meant disappear from earth and Torchwood. I can't watch cap'n Jack without remembering that scene when he's telling the Doctor and Martha about his childhood modelling...

I thought it was absolutely brilliant, and also it was shocking and so sad too.

The chap who wrote it has been given a really hard time though, he doesn't deserve any of the backlash.

I think it's time that Davis and Moran were brought to book for their blatantly homophobic agenda. Really, any excuse..... And they'll kill off any character who can do a passable Kenneth Williams impression.

The rumours of a "new" B7 abound, Sky One allegedly commisioned scripts last year, but that was the last I heard of it. They were (again allegedly) to be a prequel, based on Roj Blake's first rebel adventure. I don't like prequels so I'd be happy enough for it never to see light of day in that format to be honest.

I'd like to think that the new DOTT would match the '80's version for grittiness... I have my doubts. I'm not particularly looking forward to next year's Dr. Who either. The Smith/Gillan combo just doesn't do it for me at all.

Me too. I loved Ianto. I loved the way he went to fight aliens dressed as if he was at the evening do of a wedding reception ?

I don't watch Dr Who but I loved Torchwood. I thought this was horrifying and brilliant in equal measures. Watching Ianto die and the children being dragged from their parents I had a real lump in my throat. Its seems like such a long time since a television drama has done that to me.

I thought it was fab but pretty dark I kept saying to my H if this had been Dr Who they would have managed to save Ianto, or bring him back to life - i'm such a woose! When the other two were killed in the last series I was devastated.
