Tossing your bouquet

overtherainbow, 9 March, 2011 at 08:49 Posted on Planning 0 13

For those who are doing it, when are you all planning to toss your bouquet? I've done my daughter a small posy to toss because her actual wedding bouquet would hurt if it hit someone but everyone seems to 'toss' at different times! Most popular seem to be after the photos finished and before the meal or after the first dance. She'd like to have a photo of it happening so wondered what you ladies were planning?

I hadn't really thought about it - I'm planning to put my bouquet on my Nan and Grandad's grave (Nan passed away in January) so didn't think of having a 'substitute' to toss - may be an idea though! Maybe after the first dance??

I am going to get on Ebay for a cheap Tossing boquet as there isn't a chance i'll be tossing mine.

But it will probably be done at the end of the photos as the last group photo shot.

I have never been to a wedding where this has happened! Isn't it an American thing or should I be throwing mine too? I wanted to keep it!

It's an old tradition in this country that went out of favour around the 80's/90's probably because fashion in those days were for huge bouquets which were both too expensive to chuck and would cause injury! But it's never really a tradition that's gone away totally - not like chimney sweeps! They were all the rage in the 60's and 70's to have one turn up at your wedding was to give you good luck. I'm busting a gut to order one for Alex but I don't think she'll get it and probably think I've lost the plot!

    Hi there,

I'm planning on tossing mine at the end of the night (venue closes at 11pm). But my aim is going to be right at my Chief BM as she is my best bud and the only one left out of our crew that is not married to the OH, lol x

Hello i throw mine just befoer the first dance so the photographer was still there to get pics. I really wanted to do it as i caught my friends bouquet at her wedding and the old saying came true for me as 6 months later i was engaged. So i wanted to pass on the good luck to someone else.

I'm not throwing mine, partly because I'm having a silk bouquet (to take abroad with me) which I'd like to keep and partly because I don't think there'll be even one single girl there who'd want to catch it!

I think I've only been to one or two over the past few years where the bouquet has been thrown (and I've been to a LOT of weddings!). The only one I really remember was a massive wedding where all of the girls grouped together during the photos (probably the last one) and the photographer stood on a ladder so that he could get a good shot of the toss.

This has just made me think. I was going to toss one of the bm's bouquet but now they are having wrist corsages. Cant decide now as I wanted to keep mine and maybe press the flowers or have it preserved or something but I want to toss it too!

I,ve made lots of toss posies over the years but they seem to be dying out now. In all the weddings I do I think I have only seen it done 2/3 times.

I'll be tossing mine. Although it will be quite heavy so hope I don't injure anyone. I'll be having a shower bouquet with lillies, freesia, and possibly something else. I reckon I might dicreetly remove a flower or two for pressing, but ultimately I will defo toss to pass on the luck to someone else. I go on Honeymoon the next day anyway so wouldn't have much time to enjoy it if I kept it. I think it would be different if I was having silk flowers.

I've bought a 'junior bridesmaid'-sized posy to toss. I'll be tossing mine just after the ceremony... if I waited until the evening, there would be waaaay too many unmarried ladies!
