Traffic noise on the big day?!

thefuturemrswallis!, 14 April, 2013 at 18:37 Posted on Planning 0 17

Hello everyone,

I got engaged in January and my search for a venue has come down to two venues - one has the edge on luxury and character (a Grade 1 listed building), but it is close enough to a motorway to hear the constant drone of traffic in the background. Whereas the other venue is in a beautiful peaceful setting, is still a beautiful building from the outside, but the rooms inside are a bit 'hotelly' and would need a bit of work to dress it up for the special day.

I'm getting married in late May / early June so hopefully the weather will be nice enough for lots of lingering outside. Is traffic noise going to be a big no-no or will am I making a fuss about nothing?

Helen ?

Not worried about traffic noise in the slightest (and I'm getting married in a hotel in central London).

I would like to think my guests (and yours) will be too busy enjoying themselves to even notice.

I got married next to an airport and a racetrack. I couldn't even tell you if I heard noise! You won't notice.

I've been to quite a few city/town centre weddings and have never noticed any noise. It wasn't even something that crossed my mind when looking at venues either xx

Thanks for these responses. Maybe I am worrying over nothing? The thing is, it's not just a bit of road noise, it's a flippin' great motorway. This is such a big decision for a generally indecisive person. I think I'll pour a glass of wine to help the thought process!

Can't image it will be an issue as everyone will enjoying themselves. Must admit that when looking at venues, traffic noise didn't even cross our minds

The grounds of our venue back on to one of the busiest sections of the M25.

But then we're October, so will probably be inside anyway.

Wasn't something we even thought about to be honest.

On the day, you won't care.

After the day, you won't hear traffic noise in the photos ?

If anything I would have thought a motorway is a better option (as roads go) as it will just be a dull consistent drone of traffic passing at speed compared to a city/town b road you could have the emergency services sirens, horns, thumping music etc etc

We walked out of the church whilst they were testing the sirens at the nearby power station. Trust me, on the day you won't give two hoots about anything like that as long as you end up married.

Although if you have a videographer, they will need to be selective about the microphone types they use to "lose" the motorway noise.....

That sounds very much like Castle donnington park farmhouse. Where I always have the problem when I am about to take a shot and everyone looks up----ooh a plane

Just one quick question, are you thinking of having a video?

This may have an impact, depending on style etc.

Thanks for the advice everyone. We will probably want a videographer, but mainly for the wedding service, speeches, first dance - all indoor things, so not too much of an issue.

I wouldn't worry too much as when the DVD is edited with your favourite music over the top and they've dropped the natural audio slightly so you can just hear people chatting/laughing you wont hear the traffic noise.

EQing will help a little although as mentioned, appropriate microphones and careful camera op positioning will minimise the traffic noise in the most efficient way.....

One of the things I see and hear mostly with many wedding videos is poor microphone selection....

My venue is on the corner near busy cross roads, but when I visited I could not hear the noise and besides that would be the last thing on my mind on my wedding day Smiley smile

I'm sure no one would notice but if you're still not sure why don't you ask the venue if music can be played outside?
