Transport for OH?

gemchoo, 7 March, 2011 at 17:15 Posted on Planning 0 12

Afternoon girlies!

hope everyone is well. just a quick one that keeps puzzling me, how do i get OH to the church? (i say how do 'i' get him there as he wont think about it!)

does he need a special car like me? (not AS special of course) I dont expect him to the public transport but another car is going to be a costly little outgoing i hadnt really listed!

What plans have you all made?

Thanks, Gem xx

Mine will be getting a taxi or a lift from his best man.

Mine will be getting a lift with his 'best woman' (his daughter is in the place of a best man). I think it's up to the best man (or woman) to organise isn't it?

My OH is staying at his parents so I think he'll be getting a lift with them, or rather, they'll be decorating our camper van (wedding car) and driving them to the church, where someone will then drive round to Mum's to pick us up... I think that's the plan anyway!

Yup, all the books tell us it's the Best Man's responsibility to make sure the groom arrives on time. We're both just going in taxis - neither of us are huge car fans, well I'm in love with my old Mini but she won't fit many of us in and I don't want to leave her there overnight!

Ideally I'd go on the back of a Harley but my dress would probably catch on fire from the pipes, I think my dad's secretly gutted! I work for Harley so it'd be the easiest thing for me to arrange, Dad loves them too!!

He will go in his Dad's or Brother's car as they'll have to take their cars anyway. There wont be a grand arrival for him as he will be there as the guests arrive so bit pointless hiring a car for him as it would only be a 20 minute ride whereas we will use the car I am arriving in to get to the next venue.. Then home again the next day.

One of OH's best men has a camper but it's just been totally stripped back to be re-furbished, if it's ready in time they'll prob take that. Mind you, it did break down in Belgium last time they had it on the road so i hope it's a bit healthier come the wedding! Poor little Mildred!

Kayl, will he drive that himself?

That's why I'm glad his daughter is doing the honours - at least with a woman sorting him out he should actually get there on time and in one piece!

Oh no no no - I wouldn't trust him to get there in one piece.

He is being chaffeured in that car only. His best man / OHs family will grab a normal taxi.

My H2B and his best man are going ahead of everyone else, in a normal taxi. It is a compromise because:

    HE wanted to stay at our flat the night before, and go to the wedding via public transport (he'd have to take a train and then a bus);

HIS MUM wanted him to stay at their house and go to the wedding in a nice car... she wanted to hire him a Merc.

He is really not a 'fancy car' kind of boy... wouldn't know a nice car from a crap car... and he actually put his foot down and told his mum not to waste her money. (Not that it would be a waste in itself, just for him as HE wouldn't appreciate a nice car.)

Best Man will give me a lift, as far as I'm aware - unless I end up having our car too in which case I'll just drive myself there.

Although driving a sporty little number might be quite a fun experience, when you're going through the New Forest on little windey 30mph roads where a horse is likely to be standing in the middle of the road at the next blind corner you go round, it rather seems a bit of a waste of money for a half hour drive.

Our car does 0-70 "eventually" so given the UK speed limit I'm not convinced that flooring a sports car on the motorway "just to feel the rush" is really worth £500 or so.

Personally, I'd rather drive a Routemaster if I had any choice on the day...
