'Trash the Dress' idea - anyone done it/doing it?

GEMINIBEBE, 10 September, 2009 at 17:05 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hiya!

Have heard quite a few people and photographers talking about 'Trash the Dress' shoots lately and was thinking of doing it myself within the year after my wedding.

'Trashing' the dress doesnt necessarily mean ruining it, it can mean as much as you want it to ie. Walking along a beach, and just doing the things you wouldnt normally do in your dress, the possibilities are endless.

It is something I am definately going to consider, has anyone ever done it? Does anyone have any pics? Are they any photographers on here who have done this?

Thanks

Trash the dress seems to be an older term now as a lots of girls don't necessarily want to 'trash' their dress by rolling around in a stream or in the woods, but a LOT more ladies are doing 'Rock The Frock' shoots - which personally sounds more appealing!

With RTF you tend to take your wedding dress out of its traditional environment and have a photoshoot somewhere else like a on the swings at a local park, on a field in heavy snow in a big winter coat ...accessorising the dress up slightly with un-wedding attire like biker boots.

Bluewater did her RTF yesterday in Central London on the tube and various locations around the city..can't wait to see the pics.

I'm definitely going to do a RTF before christmas just have to find someone that I can afford...I've already picked my location ?. My dress is definitley suited to being worn in these situations.

I have to agree that the term 'Trash the Dress' has a negative tone, and doesn't really describe what it should be about. What I do with alot of my couples, is offer an 'Encore' photosession after the honeymoon, which is more like a fashion shoot, with either an edgy or romantic mood, at locations that could not have been accessed on the wedding day. We are lucky to get 20 minutes for these types of shots on the wedding day, and the couple always feel that time is slipping away, so knowing they can have an 'Encore' session helps them relax on the wedding day.

I just did an Encore session on this past Friday with PurrfectGems and her hubby Smiley smile No dress was trashed,, but we did have the most incredible sunset, the sky looked like it was on fire. Just perfect for what we wanted to do. Lynsey was gorgeous, and such a treat to photograph Smiley smile

It may not be something for everyone,, but before packing the dress away, and forgetting about it,, why not put it back on for an Encore? Smiley winking

The wonderful Teri M did my TTD shoot - we didn't trash my dress at all - it is a bit muddy on the bottom but that is all. Here are a couple of pics....

And here is the link if you wish to see more......
