Trash the Dress/Love the Dress Photo Shoot.....

Fleur10, 30 June, 2011 at 13:45 Posted on Planning 0 20

Hi everyone, we got back from honeymoon earlier this week, had the most amazing time. Will do a report very soon.

Just wanted to ask if anyone here has done a Trash the Dress or Love the Dress photo shoot? We have been offered the chance to do one and think its a great idea before our wedding clothes are packed away never to see daylight for a long time! I dont want to trash my dress so ours will be a love the dress shoot and we have some great locations around us that the TOG has recommended. I love the idea of getting to wear my dress again and we are quite up for it also because we will have more time to concentrate on more of the quirky shots we like and the ones of us just being us.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks Smiley smile

    You HAVE to do it!!!

Teri @ Murakami did ours (check out avatar...!) and they are some of my favourite photos in the world... no wedding nerves, just fun!

I love your avatar photo Mrs C, I didn't realise you'd done a LTD shoot (although I did wonder how you'd managed to get your hair looking so straight and perfect after having it up for the ceremony! Duh!?)

I have been seriously considering one of these over the last few days as I gradually accept that I really AM disappointed with our wedding photos (and not just being overly picky). Are they horribly expensive though? Are we talking a similar cost to wedding photography? What images did you get from your shoot and in what format? I daren't even get my hopes up that I could afford to get one done and keep the images, we are so broke after the wedding......esp since the MIL insisted on this damn party that we didn't budget for.

(sorry, that ended up rather 'woe is me'?)

    Hey Mynnie,

Mrs C won my prize from last year's Hitched raffle, so she got the images on a dvd with reproduction rights. Smiley smile To be honest, I tend to include this type of session for my brides as a little giift for 'after the wedding' and I call them 'Encore' sessions,, rather than Trash the Dress,, etc,, because that's really what it is,, an Encore performance of the dress Smiley winking. Not all of my brides take me up on it, but those that do, we have alot of fun. It's likely the last time they will wear the dress, so we really play it up. I like dramatic images, so we try to get a variety of different images. I don't know where you are,, but we are down on the coast in Bournemouth. I do encourage alot of creative thinking when planning these sessions,, to do the kind of images that you may not have been able to do on the wedding day,, due to time restrictions, or location. Contact me, you know you want to Smiley winking

    Hugs,

    Teri

I know I do too, that's the problem!!? Not sure I could stand any more disappointment right now though, I hate the world enough at the moment!

Much perfer the 'encore' term, I certainly don't want to TTD, I just want some nice photos! We do have a few nice ones, but overall I'm disappointed....TBH I don't think it was any failing on his part as such, we just chose the wrong tog for our circumstances and location.

Great stuff, did you post any of your pics on hitched, I would love to see some?

Thats exactly what we thought, that the shoot would be just pure fun as it would be just about us and no worrying about making sure the TOG has taken photos of everything else coz we have done that bit already ? I just adored wearing my dress and feel that this time round I can be much more relaxed with it too.

Teri M also did my Encore session and I loved it! I also got my H involved and we travelled from Glasgow to Bournemouth to see them.

More can be seen here - http://murakamiphotography.blogspot.com/search/label/Encore%20Post%20Wedding%20Session.

    Teri ROCKS so do it!

While I'm here I may as well join in!

My brother did a 'cherish the dress' shoot with me recently. I couldn't bear to do a trash the dress one as I would have been devastated if my dress got ruined! Really pleased I did it though as wanted some pictures of my dress as didn't really get any amazing ones of the dress on our wedding day.

Some of these pics are fab, i love all the natural looking ones but there are quite alot that look very staged and posey and not my cup of tea at all.

If i were to do one of these they would be of the more natural verity.

Your photos are amazing!!! Our shoot is also along the lines of cherish the dress so I'm wanting pics to show it off, defo not going to be getting it muddy or anything like that. I'm really up for some natural shots taken whilst we are'nt looking, I really do think that photos taken not looking directly at the camera at the best.

I really wish I had done something like this as I love my dress! Alas since may it has been hanging in the spare room, still not dry-cleaned, being ignored.

This is something I really want to do! I think I am going to give in & not ride my horse to my ceremony (BOOO!!!!) but I really love the idea of getting some pics after the wedding with me in my dress & riding my beautiful dressage horse side saddle. Fortunately he already carries a side saddle so I just need to find one to buy/borrow! I also love the idea of going up into the woods with my grey arab mare as I think that might look really beautiful... Just need to find a tog around High Wycombe direction who'd be willing to do it now as my tog for hte wedding is based near our venue in Gloucestershire.

    Terri

Im in Poole and have already booked our wedding photographer and would love to do a LTD shoot. I echo a lot of the brides concerns on here and dont want to trash the dress as I love it but could we come to you to do an 'encore' shoot?

    Hey Sarah,

I don't believe in 'trashing the dress',, lol. I love wedding gowns too much, and repect the hard work that goes into making them. I just love taking exciting and dramatic images in interesting locations Smiley winking

If you are in Poole, most likely you are using a photographer who I would know, and to be honest, you should talk to them about doing a session after the wedding. I can't imagine they would turn you down on that. If it's not something they would do, then definately contact me, but talk to your photographer first as you already have that connection with them. I don't want to step on another professional's toes, if that makes sense. Smiley smile

Paula,, that is hysterical, lol. I did a session a few years ago on one of the snowboard places because the bride and her hubby go snowboarding in France alot, and it was easier to do it here than to go to France. I was all for going to France tho,, go figure, LOL.
