travel insurance for diving

NeoShoegal, 24 September, 2008 at 11:43 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

We're planning on taking diving lessons on our next vacation and I need to sort out our travel insurance. Do you need special cover for diving? Any recommendations on good travel insurance companies? (looking for annual trip insurance, not single trip)

Any non standard requests for travel Insurance (medical, PG past 28 weeks & sports) - use Essential Travel Insurance - AXA underwrite the policy & will tailor each need to the policy rather than blanket cover.

If I were you, I'd check some standard policies' wording, as you'll find some will cover you down to 30m. My annual one through moneysavingexpert.com was the cheapest and did cover me that deep (which you won't need anyway, lessons only take you to a maximum of 12m, I think).

Thanks all! Found like what looks like a good cover and does include diving up to 30m through moneysavingexpert. Also include airlines going bust, which seems like a good idea these days!

I'm a diver and always use Columbus Direct as diving to 30m is included as standard within the policy, although they hide it in the small print and try and make you buy a sports pack to include it.

However, if you are planning some serious diving then make sure your policy will cover the cost of hyperbaric treatment.

    Have fun!

Also, check out the diving school that you use as sometimes their packages include insurance.
