Travel Sickness

HeidiHole, 25 August, 2008 at 17:30 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 16

Do you ever stop getting it?

I am 34 28 and I still suffer from travel sickness from time to time. We went out today and drove 7 miles there and 7 miles back, I felt so sick when we got back I had to have a lie down. That was 3 hours ago and I still feel a bit bilious.

Urgh.

Try eating some green apples, it works against seasickness.

I get really motion sick - but I find that if I really concentrate on not being ill, then I'm not

Only works in cars though, I am terrible on boats

Ginger is a classic remedy for it, isn't it? I believe eating ginger in some form before works well.

I know all the remedies, I just want to know when I'll 'grow' out of it, like my mammy promised ?

A square of chocolate (no, really) usually does the trick for me when I first start to feel a bit sick. I've not really suffered from car sickness since I passed my test and now drive myself around, but coaches still get to me. All that stopping and starting and jolty braking. ?

    Horrible isn't.

I've had it since I was a child and I still get it - I would be sick within 5 minutes sitting in the back of the car. I also get 'travel' sick on aeroplanes, after long runs, in the passenger seat if I'm wearing heels, in static caravans and any building with shallow foundations ?. Ah, the glamour.

I don't get sick when I am driving, so I generally do that - I also take Stugeron travel sickness pills if I think I'm going to be unable to avoid sitting in the back of a car or on a coach etc.

Oh - in answer to growing out of it, I'm 38 now so I don't hold out much hope!

Bloody awful, isn't it? I get sick in cars, taxis, planes, trains, boats and, errr, lifts. ?

Only thing that has ever worked for me is either driving the vehicle myself or regular use. That is, I get horribly sick in taxis unless I take them all the time. If I stop taking them for a while the sickness comes back when I get back in.

Snap.. with the addition of static caravans and, err, spinning teacups!

Ah, sorry, misunderstood. I've never suffered from it but my ex did. He got travel sick if he was a passenger but not as a driver. Is that an option (when you're driving anyway)? H can't read while moving (as a passenger) but if he looks at the road its OK - sitting in the back of a car isn't good.

Wow - I've never come across anyone else who get travel sick so easily. Static caravans - that must be a nightmare. Spinning teacups however - no surprise there. Guaranteed vomit-induction for me.

I'm the same - fine as a driver, but terrible as a passenger, especially in the back. And reading (unless on a very, very straight road) is a complete no-no.

As is sitting sideways or backwards like in a mini-bus or train. No way!

So in answer to your question, I don't think you ever really grow out of it. Just like acne, it lingers on well into your 40s! ☹️ Ask me again when I'm in my 50s!

Ohhh, my son made me go on the teacups with him when I was hungover once. It was not pretty, not pretty at all ?

    Thanks everyone ?
