Tried my dress on again and upset myself :( encouragement please

Dana_leigh, 19 May, 2012 at 21:56 Posted on Planning 0 26

Hi ladies

Ok so i made a mistake today...I have been losing weight, so far only 4 pounds but have lost nearly 3 inches off my hips, 4 off my waist and 3 of my bust.

I know its early days but I tried my dress on again and it still doesn't do up properly Smiley sad Smiley sad Smiley sad

It did feel better on the hips but I'm starting to wonder if maybe i will never fit in it because it doesn't do up over my bust....maybe its my ribs????

I have 15 months to go so i know its ages away and I know I have been slimmer before...but I have always worn the same size bra....or maybe thats just me being tight and refusing to buy new ones and stretching the ones I have??

Someone please reassure me that if worst comes to worst, putting a corset back in will sort it?????

    Thanks ladies....

I haven't been to see anyone yet...perhaps I should go now rather than a bit later on...I was planning to go a bit nearer the time, maybe in the new year.

This is the dress on from a month ago, It did up with a lot of force from my MOH but to be honest it doesnt appear to fit any different today! Despite the lost inches!

My MOH comes to see me in a few weeks time so she can help me do it up again properly and perhaps it will feel different....thanks ladies!

Is that zipped all the way to the top? What does it look like from the back?

    Lovely dress btw.

Yeah thats zipped up all the way to the back. This is it at the back with a good helping of back fat.

No idea what it looks like at the back tonight as I couldnt do it up on my own, not enough hands

It looks a bit tight but nothing that you couldn't fix with a corset back and you have ages to loose a couple more pounds if thats what you want.

Dont stress you have ages to get it perfect!

Looking at that you will be fine in 15 months if you keep losing weight I buy 36 bras whether my dress size is 12 or 14 although i shouldn't and dresses that are too tight around the ribs at 14 aren't when i am down to a 12

    I really, honestly wouldn't worry.

You may not even need a corset back. That dress is so close to fitting, they may be able to take it out at the top to give you a bit more room (this is what they did with mine by half an inch or so).

    You look lovely in it.

Personally, I'd start looking for a seamstress now. Take it to her and ask her opinion. I'm always of the opinion it's better to have all the information early on.

Stop panicking - it looks great, and will be fine with minor adjustments.

Thanks Kharv and 3D Jewellery, I feel much better. I think I need it taking up anyway but want to see if a hoop will make a lot of difference before I do that, so may take it before xmas, that way i will have nearly a year to sort it Smiley smile

    Thanks everyone x

Like all the posts above have said you have plenty of time to loose weight if that's what you want to do, and it does look like you are almost there. If i was you i would find someone who can do alterations now so that you can chill and not worry!! I am sure they will have suggestions for what they could do if you need it altering at all and that will help put your mind at rest. It is a gorgeous dress - you will look stunning on your big day!!

Give yourself another month or so, sometimes with weight loss you don't see any difference and then all of a sudden something will be too big!

I was in a worse position than you, my dress was no where near doing up with 6 months to go, went to seamstress corset back put in and hips let out - lovely lady charged me £35 all stress has gone and I love my dress.

It can be sorted so don't panic, but then I did so understand, I think you could do it before yours your big say but as I know what I was like if you are really stressing and you don't mind having a corset back then get it done.

The dress is stunning - good luck

your gonna drive yourself crazy trying it on after every 4lb weight loss its the same as weighing yourself everyday!

The dress is going to be fine i reckon and it loos amazing the more ressure you put on yourself the harder it will be to loose it xxxxxxxxx

I think like all the above posts say, don't panic and try and find a seamstress now so that you can relax knowing you have it sorted. Plus, a lot can happen in a year too, I lost 1.5 stone!!!!!!! You will do it, but like I say best to see a seamstress now so that you can relax, and not be putting yourself under so much pressure then .

You do look stunning in the dress!!!!!

I wouldnt worry too much, you will fit into it!!

My dress was about 2 inches from fitting 2 months ago, now it zips up fine, just maybe need to lose another 2/3 lbs in the next 5 weeks.

You will be surprised how much weight you actually lose from your ribs, and you are not far off that dress fitting!

Good luck with the weight loss! I've lost 5lb and now I've stalled. Salad for lunch all week should do the trick, I hope...

Dont worry. Like others have said it looks a little tight but nothing that cant be fixed. The sample dress I tried had a zip on and was tight on the bust, and snug on the top of the hips.

The lady in the shop measured me and said to order the same size dress as the sample for me. I panicked and said the sample was too small, but she said with the lace up back it would be perfect. She was right, I had my first fitting the other day ands its perfect!

Of course you'll fit into it, Dana! 15 months is a long time for you to lose the weight you want to lose. I wanna lose a lot of weight, we're talking probably half my body weight to look lovely in a beautiful dress for our wedding in just under 2 years. Anythings possible!

Without wishing to ignore the fab weight loss you've made so far, 4lbs is nothing in terms of clothing size (hell, I can lose - or put on - 7lbs in a weekend!!) and I think you'll drive yourself crazy if you keep trying it on after such little weight loss!

If I were you, I'd try to resist trying it on for 2 months, as I reckon you'll lose another half stone by then and that should make the difference. For me personally, I have to drop a stone to drop a dress size.

Thanks. I only tried it on because I couldnt help myself not because I lost some weight. I just hoped the fact that I lost 3 inches all over, 4 on my waist that it might fit better than it did.

I will lose weight as I have already lost a alot, but it will just take time. Overall I have lost 7 pound, just the 4 has been in the last 2 weeks so hoped that would make a difference since I last tried on the dress.

    anyhow...will wait a bit longer

I have a friend who is getting married to weeks after me. She was a size 14-16 and bought a size 12 wedding dress on purpose. She started losing weight last year and her wedding is now in 9 weeks. The dress fits her perfectly and you can tell the difference on her weight. Her issue has always been her boobs, they never seem to get smaller lol but it is only natural that when you lose weight you lose weight all over, maybe more on certain areas than others, but still all over. You will be fine! If 5-6 before the wedding it still doesnt fit, then get a seemstress to sort it out, there will still be plenty of time. I am getting married in about 6 weeks and bought my dress in march 2011. The bridal shop called me this april (3 months before the wedding) for a fitting to check if alterations are required! Don't worry!

Thanks...I am thinking of getting a corset back in anyway now, just to alleviate any pressure...even if I lost weight I still have to maintain that loss for over a year until I wear it!!

Thanks for the support, everyone has been very helpful!

I had a similar panic when I couldnt do up my own dress. I thought Id put on weight and it was upsetting. Then when i got to the shop to have them consider putting in a corset back the lady just did the zip straight up and it fit me perfectly. The way wedding dresses are usually structured means trying to do it up yourself puts your body in a weird shape and almost impossible to do up.

I would consider finding seemstress sooner rather than later and discuss any fears you have with them but I would not worry at all. In the photo the dress looks gorgeous and only a tiny bit tight around your back. I think you'll look amzing
