Trip Advisor bad reviews

panda2011, 8 August, 2011 at 13:31 Posted on Planning 0 10

Has anyone else tried putting their venue on trip advisor? Having had a bad trial meal with a month to go I just have. Oh dear! How seriously do other people tend to take bad reviews on trip advisor? Overall my venue got 76% but the bad reviews were really scathing. Should I be worried?

I tend to ignore "scathing" reviews as I imagine the writers as bitter people with no capacity for moderation and reasonable expectation. I take far more notice of the "moderate" reviews.

You have to remember with Trip Advisor that only those who absolutely loved it or absolutely hated it will post on there. There will be the odd few who are in the middle but if I've been somewhere and it was only OK I don't comment, if it was amazing then I rave about it (and always mean to rant about the bad but then forget). You have to go on what you think and your experience with the venue.

Thank you both! Some of the comments on trip advisor I can definitely agree with. Seeing the reviews has just pushed me into deciding I need a second trial meal which is something I had been hoping to avoid.

Do not worry - our hotel has some really awful reviews on trip advisor & we'd a fab time & would totally go back.

I noticed most of the ad reviews for ous were by americans.

It depends on you as a person ie one nite there was a bad storm & water came in & we woke up to puddles on our floor - big deal we laid down towels & soaked it up. Its what you make it! x

I use trip advisor all the time but do take the scthing reviews with a pinch of salt until I have read them, usually they are by people who seem to have totally unrealistic expectations, but if there are things mentioned over and over in moderate and bad reviews I would tend to take notice of that. I know this is not very politically correct but I do tend to discount reviews by Americans as well, based on past experiences.

There are always going to be bad ones because people who've just had a nice time aren't going to go to the trouble of posting about it. Just think of it in the same way as if you were writing to the hotel you'd stayed at. If you'd had a terrible time, you'd write a letter of complaint. If you'd had a really amazing time, very few people might write a letter of praise, but I don't think anyone would write to the hotel to say they'd had a moderately good time!

    Hi There

I have worked at many wedding venues that by the nature of their work occasionally get people whose expectations aren't met. Whether these were realistic expectations is debatable. One hotel in particular got some bad reviews, I know is excellent and we work there on a weekly basis so have seen more than a few weddings. You can normally get a feel for the person who’s written the comments from whether there comments seem balance and fair. I wouldn’t panic just yet. I think a second trial is a great idea may be go for different menu options this time. Good luck and post back how you got on! Laura X

Out wedding venue had equal number of great and bad reviews. The bad reviews seem to centre around the fact that there is no wi-fi, and it's on a busy road (which frankly, you could tell just by looking at the hotel website). So sometimes people mark hotels down for things that you won't necessarily be affected by!

Unfortunately, our nation loves a good moan, so I tend to avoid the review websites.

I'd go off word of mouth if you can.
