Trivial Christmas Eve Work Rant

Buffy Somers, 19 December, 2008 at 10:18 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0

Half way during my shift last night I took a quick glance at the rota to find out which shift manager I was on with on Christmas Eve. I am now very peeved to find my original shift has been changed for this day. I am now finishing later, and loosing an hours pay ? This rota was originally done four weeks ago, the Manager even showed us it before it wen't up to make sure everyone was o.k with it, now she has swopped my shift with someone elses, without asking. This was done on Wednesday when I was off. I was actually looking forward to finishing at two on Christmas Eve, the last two Christmasses H and I were running a pub 24/7 so did'nt really 'get' a Christmas. To be honest the only thing I have planned for the rest of the day is to come home, clean out my animals, give the flat a final once over before the MIL arrives ? and prepare anything I can foodwise for the next day.

I know compared to a lot of people on here this is a very minor and childish rant, but it is really annoying me. To my mind this is wrong. Surely it's not right to change someone's rota without asking less than a week beforehand (although she has done this before) but not before Christmas?. I am going to go in today and say I can't do it, I've got plans. Surely I'm in my rights to do this?, the fact that I was never asked in the first place, and they've clearly swopped my shift with someone else's, means I'm in my rights?.

(rant over)

I don't know the legal aspects to it, but I would be furious too. I would go straight to whoever today and say "I happened to look at the rota yesterday to see my shift has been changed without notifying or asking me. Unfortunately I cannot do this shift as I have made unchangable plans based on the shift rota I had been given previously." Or words to that effect. Although there would be some expletives if it was me.
