Trouble booking Registry office

thedawnbringer, 4 February, 2014 at 19:31 Posted on Planning 0 7

How long did it take you to book your registry office, and was it relatively straightforward? I tried ringing 2 days ago and was kept in hold for ages then told they are really busy and someone will call me back. They called this morning and I tried calling back all throughout today and could not get through! Is this normal? I'm trying to book somewhere in Stratford

The office where we got married was fine, no major problems. Trying to make an appointment to give notice at our "home" registry office, on the other hand, was a major logistical challenge!

It's an hour away from us so popping in is a little awkward. I will keep ringing. I wonder why it's so difficult to just book a marriage!

@Helenia do you mind me asking what problems you had with your notice?

I also had problems with booking to give notice (not to book the registry office). The phone would ring for ages and no one would pick up. I tried a few days and actually holding for 5-10 minutes and still no one would answer. Tried email over a few weeks, but received no response. I finally got through to them on the phone and they didn't have any appointments for several weeks and certainly not at the time I needed it to be (12-2pm) - so I could dash out in my lunch hour. Once it was booked, all went smoothly and I didn't have any problems though. We are giving our notices separately and my fiancé didn't have the same problem when he booked, so maybe they are just busier at certain times of year.

Similar stuff - phone not being answered, the right person not being available, then not having any appointments on days when my H and I could both easily get time off (they insisted we went together). Took a long time to get sorted out.

    Hi

I had the exact same problem. Tried ringing and ringing for days! When they finally did answer I didn't know what to say! Haha.

Keep trying. Good luck Smiley smile

I keep imagining a little old lady hobbling over to the phone and saying... "What... A wedding! You want to do WHAT?" Haha

I actually organised all of mine over Email, purely for this reason (they are a different location to us so no chance of going in).

Once I had confirmed that the date I wanted was free, and what times were available I managed to get a provisional holding for that date/time and then I phoned to pay the booking fee and they didn't answer first time but rang me back the following day, made it a lot easier though as I didn't need to speak with the usual person that dealt with bookings as all I had to do was pay using my debit card over the phone, I actually had a guy who didn't really know what he was doing but we managed it in the end Smiley smile (and the confirmation is correct!) xx
