True black eye make up recommendations please?

Daffy B, 19 May, 2009 at 16:26 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

I love wearing dark eyeshadow/liner but most of the shadows that look black in the pot seem to go on grey or fade fast to grey. Does anyone know of true black eyeliner and eye shadow? Price isn't a problem (as I make it last for ages!) so recommend any brand please. Thanks in advance.

What you need is MAC's Sharkskin shadestick. It' s a black crayon that you put all over your lid (or wherever!) and then you put the shadow on top. It makes the colour more solid, or if you're putting a dark shimmer colour over the crayon, it makes it much more intense.

MAC and Barry M have good black eyeshadows as well.

Sorry, just saw you asked about eyeliner as well - do you mean liquid or pencil? If liquid, L'Oreal do a new black eyeliner that's blacker than their previous black one

For pencil, I love Benefit's Bad Gal although it's quite a chunky pencil so you can't really get a precision line with it.

Thanks Flump, I think I'll have a splurge in Boots tomorrow!

I forgot about liquid eyeliner, I normally steer clear of it because sometimes I get reactions to things and liquid eyeliner is one of the things that I normally have a bad reaction to. I once put some on and it started to feel as if it was burning so I tried to take it off and it all ran in to my eyes - I thought I was going to go blind! I was very scared but luckily it all washed out, I just had very red eyes for a day.

I have a black Chanel eyeshadow that stays on pretty well. As Flump said I use Sharkskin to start and then put the eyeshadow on. In fact I now always use a cream shadow first and then apply powder as it seems to stay put for longer.

One thing I found with the Mac shadestick is they can go quite hard and can take a bit of warming up otherwise you'll make your lid red and sore.

Oh and I also use the Mac liner in a pot and apply with a very fine brush. I much prefer this over pencils or more traditional liners.

I've used Bourjois' Liquid eyeliner in black for years. Even when i went through my goth/punk black dark eyemakeup look in my teens. I like it because it never snudges on me and the line never fades. Stays glossy black until i take it off.

Urban Decay's 24/7 eyepencil in black is also great. It's bold and lasts on the skin well.

I like the superdrug 'own brand' black, iy's in an oval case usually on a rotating stand IYSWIM and its three items for a fiver. Combine it with Boots 17 liquid eyeliner and it looks great, other eyeshadow colours in the same range also look fab on btw.
