Trying on dresses

alex86, 14 May, 2009 at 13:12 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hi guys,

I just wanted to get your opinions and experiences. I've seen a dress that I really like on that auction site. It's one of those cheapy ones from China that they make to measure.

Morals & ethics about cheap Chinese labour aside, do you think I ought to hang fire and go and try some dresses on in boutiques and bridal shops first? My main concern is that I really like this dress, and it is cheap as chips, but if I fall in love with something more expensive in the boutique I'm either going to have to totally rearrange my budget and cut back on everything else I want, or settle for "second best".

What would you do?

To be honest that dress from China is probably in one of the boutiques somewhere so I would search around and go and try it on in there and then buy it off the auction site if it is suitable. Boutiques seem to get there dresses from all over different countries so I am sure you would find something simular or the same.

Are their any Bridal shops in your local area you could check?

I vaguely there was someone on here a few weeks ago - mst to mrsb? - who had ordered from china, and wasn't completely happy with her dress. it's a chance to take only if you are happy to lose the money if it doesn't look right at the end of it and you have to get another dress.....

Personally i wouldnt take the risk. When i started looking i had my heart set on a dress that when i tried on i didnt like anywhere as much as i had originally hoped.

If the dress is important to you then i would defo try on as many as you can before you make any decisions and buy anything.
