Trying to achieve what I can't afford.

Charliebob, 21 June, 2015 at 10:13 Posted on Planning 0 22

So basically in an ideal world, I would have loved to of bought a Charlie Brear wedding dress and sash. After finding out from retailers that pretty much all the styles I adore will cost me around £2500 (Sash being £185 just on it's own) I knew I was going to be stuck. So I went searching and searching, I hopelessly looked on second hand sites for one, but being a size 14-16 they were all way too small (Haven't found one in a size 12 or above). This below was what I was trying to achieve:

This dress

With this sash

So I managed to find a high street store that did their own lace dress, with a small train and sleeves! (I needed sleeves). Obviously I am aware the lace won't even be on par with a designer dress but I was happy with my find. Then I went on the hunt for a sash, couldn't find one anywhere. Was going to source a Charlie Brear one but couldn't justify spending nearly £200 on just a sash. So found a lovely lady who made me a buttermilk silk sash for £20! So yeah please tell me if it works well together:

Sorry pics aren't that great my mum took them on her Ipad, as it's at her house.

So basically what I am asking does this look ok? Does it work well together? Or would you see me and think it looks cheap and nasty. Many thanks for reading and if you choose to reply.

I definitely don't think it looks cheap and nasty. The main question is, do you love yourself in it? I love lace dresses and belts around the middle like you have, so I think it would work well together. But again, as long as you love the dress and can imagine you in it in your wedding day then that's it! And if I could find what I wanted for cheaper I would love it too! Lol

I also think the colours go well together, the sash and dress!

I think it looks lovely together, definitely not "cheap and nasty". Congratulations on the bargain! The only person who will know it was from the high street will be you. Your guests will have no idea.

I think it looks great! Doesn't look cheap at all. No one will know it's from the high street. Well done you!

It looks lovely, not cheap and nasty at all.

I'm actually shocked the original version is £185! Are they having a laugh?! It's beautiful but essentially just a long piece of material no?

I think it looks lovely. Are you happy in it?

Well done for sourcing an affordable (but just as beautiful) alternative. No one will ever know.

That looks lovely. I think you've done well to recreate the look you want. I wouldn't be able to tell them apart and no-one else will either.

Do you feel beautiful wearing it?

It looks beautiful! Thought I was going to open this thread to read you being upset about not being about to afford what you want, so it's really nice to see the opposite Smiley smile

You’ve done really well recreating it!

Do you have a flash with it on?

TBH from the photos you can’t really see much of a difference.
