Trying wedding dress on - WWYD?

HorseFan, 11 May, 2010 at 12:03 Posted on Planning 0 14

So last week, my dress came into the shop and I excitedly booked an appointment to try it for this coming Friday.

Then when we out riding at the weekend, my (fit, healthy) horse collapsed and died. Now apart from the fact that I'm obviously devastated, I have major bruising on my leg (as it got trapped beneath him when he collapsed).

I can't decide whether to go to dress appointment or not. I really want to be excited about dress and I thinking having something else to focus on might be good for me but equally i'm probably going to have to explain away why my leg is black & blue and I don't want to end up in tears in the middle of a bridal shop.

Any thoughts?

Oh poor you, no wonder you are devastated. My first thoughts were "yes go, it will take your mind off it for a bit " etc but I totally understand where you are coming from about ending up in tears when you will no doubt explain about the bruising - I would be too.

Are they the sort of shop where you could drop them an email beforehand to explain and say that you wanted to email as if you told them in the shop you would end up crying. I would have done this with the shop I chose as they were lovely and the shop was small and friendly but I'd understand not all shops are like this. Is that a possibility?

That's awful, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss!!

I think going to your appointment will be a good idea, it'll give you something to get excited about and it should help you take your mind off what happened. I'm sure the ladies in the shop won't ask about your leg, you'll only need to tell them if you want to.

I hope you feel better soon x

How awful to hear - I'm so so sorry.

I think that trying on the dress might help to bring a smile to your face though. Most people tend to have the sensitivity to not ask about bruises when they see them - so perhaps nobody will say anything? I wouldn't ask if I saw something like that.

Alternatively, you could just head it up and tell them (or get someone who's coming with you to tell them) that you've some unsightly bruises that you're quite sensitive about or something when you arrive? Hopefully, they'll understand not to ask.

However, don't worry about tears in the shop - the ladies there are quite used to them and will have plenty of tissues on hand.

Its none of the lady in the shops business why your leg is bruised - if she asks i think its a bit rude.

You go and try on your dress - you will probably be sooooo excited that you will forget about your poor horse, if only for a hour or so

Go try it on and remember to take your camera please!

Thanks all, i knew you'd lot would have an answer. They are little local - very friendly shop, I think email fore-warning them might be a good option.

Awww that's so sad, what a shock for you ☹️

Deffo let them know before hand, when my dog died I was as ok as you could be until someone asked if I was ok and then I went to pieces, would be such a shame to feel sad when it's such a happy exciting occasion xx

I'm so sorry :-(. I have a horse and i can completely understand how devastating that must be - especially in those circumstances!!!

I would go and try on your dress - it will give you something positive to think about even if just for an hour.

So sorry to hear about your horse.

As others have said drop them an email before hand just explaining, that way they will be sensitive to you.

I am sure it will make you smile when you see it on.
