Tulip ideas - help needed please ladies!!

mrsmould-to-be, 12 January, 2010 at 09:25 Posted on Planning 0 6

Ok - we have finally decided on the flowers for our wedding, these are to be yellow Tulips Smiley smile...now we have another small dielema on table centrepieces...

i originally didnt want to go with flowers as my wedding is booked the day before mothers day in march 2011 and flower prices are going to be sky high, so we were opting for candle alternatives

i have searched high and low on the internet and cannot find tulip shaped candles anywhere!!, my idea was to either have these floating if i could find them or have a tulip shaped candle sat on some water beads in a vase (may sound naff but actually looks good, have tried it with a rose shaped candle so know itll work!!)

i really am not up for changing the flowers as my heart is set on tulips as its a spring wedding, my MIL said about making the candles myself which would be a nice tounch, im fairly creative - does anyone else have this experience?

i have ordered today a sample of yellow silk tulips as i may see if i could do something with these instead - just incase my venue are funny about the whole candle situation- im awaiting a callback with a yay or nay to them!!

even if they say no to the candles and are ok with tealights, i may make the candles anyway as decoration and wont be lit!

does anyone out there have any experience on tulips or candle making lol?? xx

    HI,

Well I have loads of experience of tulips. That is actually one of my Tablec entres Kim has posted on there !!! You can do things like this, which have got the tulips bent around with beads in the bottom and a light. One things ot note on the idea of floating candles is that you must not put them into a goldfish bowl type vase as if they get close to the edge they can actually smash the vase with the heat. It has to be an open topped striaght sided dish you have them in.

As far as tulips go they are very versatile. You can do thinkgs lke that table centre or you can have simple vases of tulips. Ikea have vases that are around £1 a vase and you woudl ned around 30 tulips to fill one fo these. It is a simple yet good solution and very effecttive. Mothers day flowers do not increase as much cost wise as Valentines day and there will only be a small increase on wholesaler prices for tulips. Any florist that tells you they will be far more expensive due to mothers day is wrong.

As for tulips for other thing then hand tied bouquets can look great and there are examples on our website. www.orangeryflowers.co.uk

If you are around the area and wanted to get an idea of pricing I would be more than happy to help.

    Hi,

Im having tulips for my flowers too ? Im ivory and purple though.

As someone said, you shouldn't have a big mark up just because it's mothers day. If you want to go with flower table centrepieces, your florist can order them when they order the flowers to make your bouquet so there shouldn't be a big increase in cost (it should be the same as normal!)

If your just after eastertime, what about something like this in little baskets -

    or

If you fancy baskets, you could buy them cheap after easter this year and then just put them away! x
