Two Birds/ BHS Twist and Wrap BM Dresses

Jessie_bride, 22 August, 2012 at 13:05 Posted on Planning 0 23

Hi,

Has anyone got any experience on these? I've never seen them and would love to know what you thought if you've had them/ tried them on/ been asked to wear one.

Thanks,

Jess

    Yes lots of experience here!!!

We started off by trying on two birds at the wedding show, I really liked them and my sister (chief bm) loved it, but they don't have the colour I wanted and are pretty pricey. I contacted them and they offered to do a bespoke colour for me if I ordered a minimum of 4 full length dresses for an extra £30 per dress (so £280 total each)

We then tried the Dessy version, slightly duller material, the two birds ones have a bit of a sheen to them, and loved the persian plum colour. Also a lot more reasonable in price - £159 for full length. However, the full length wasn't long enough for my 5ft 8 sister to wear any kind of heel and for a November wedding we didn't want to wear flip flops or ti go for the short ones, so back to the drawing board...

Found two other companies who sent me swatches of material in dark pink / fuschia colours - in one clothing and myriad 6, but was a bit wary of ordering from unknown companies.

In the meantime my mum came across the BHS ones. I wasn't that impressed with them on the website, but ordered one to see what it was like and when it arrived it was gorgeous and exactly the colour I wanted and really long, woo hoo! The fabric is very similar to the two birds with a bit of a sheen and is heavy so it looks really nice and the tie hangs well at the back.

After weeks of stressing, all of the BMs (I have 4) tried it and loved it so I went back and ordered another 3 and we all lived happily ever after. Especially as they were only £80 each and I actually considered paying two birds £280 each!!! They have since been reduced in the sale to £54 and added another 3 colours. I highly recommend them.

Perhaps order a BHS one to try, you can send it back for free. Otherwise call round some Dessy suppliers and see if any of them stock one, or two birds may be at the wedding show again in October?

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Jess,

I've had a look at them online and love the idea - you could always send it back if you didn't like them?

If you do order them and get them before Monday, I found a voucher for 25% off...

That's fab! I would order them now with the discount and send them back if unsuitable. Free returns and they send a courier to collect. The small size fitted my two size 10 BMs and the medium fitted my 12 and 14 BMs no problem.

I got the matching flower girls dresses as well

I have just been looking at these BHS ones online in blue. Anyone done the bandeau style - easy to do??

I'd be ordering the long ones but it'd probably be too long for my MOH who's 5 2" - has anyone had their taken up at all, if so was it ok, they just look like that funny elastic material so I'm not sure?

    Thanks

Hi, Just dropping a note to say BHS ordering and returning is free and so Easy to do. Highly reccommend ordering from them. I have found my adult BM dresses on Debenhams and i'm having the same experience with them.

We didn't try the bandeau as I let my 4 bms choose their own style and none of them went for that one. We did however go for the full length and it fitted them all (height range 5ft4" to 5ft8") no problem at all, you can just wear the waistband as high or low as you want. Can't recommend then highly enough, all my girls looked gorgeous, although stick in bras are recommended!!

    Hi,

My BMs have chosen the BHS twist and wrap dresses. Like you, we ordered them online intending to send them back if unsure. We ended up going for them- my BMs are a sizes 8 and 12 and they all looked beautiful on them.

My advice would be to order them in different colours and sizes so you can play around with them. We couldn't managed the bandeau style- it ended up very lumpy (but we didn't have the instructions- you have to print them off).

The jade ones are in the sale- meant mine came in at £150 for 3 (still less than 1 twobirds dress.

    Hope it helps

Has anyone got a photo of the BHS ones? Would be nice to see what they are like on real people? Cheers

I've just ordered these brooches to go with the jade BHS ones. They were really cheap from ebay but make the dresses look really expensive and vintagey.

It also has helped to find different ways with a bra-

Only the one from the website which you've probably got.

    I'll flash again anyway:

Also if it helps my florist matched the dresses to the pantone colour reference:

It might help for flowers/ stationary/ accessories etc

I wore the BHS one recently when I was bridesmaid. Here we all are.

We all added a brooch in a differnt place too. Personally...I would've preferred the short dress if I'm honest. But it was nice that we all could wear something different.
