Two dresses?

Kentish Gal, 19 October, 2012 at 14:32 Posted on Planning 0 6

I am in love with the 50's style dresses. If I had a 'look' it would be that. I wear party dresses whenever I can. It's not what I have chosen however.

I am saving money on various things and am very tempted to get a second dress (and surprise the groom!) to wear for having a boogie in, in the evening. Are there any pros/cons to this, do you think?

Thanks!

    Pro - having TWO DRESSES!

Con - having to change mid-day and possibly mess up hair/make-up

Pro - surprising everyone including hubby

Con - it might come across as over-indulgent?

I'm personally in the over-indulgent camp, I don't see the need for two dresses.. But then, it's done by people, so I might be in the minority!

I'm having a tea length dress and have wanted one for as long as I can remember. I don't have a "look" though just wear dresses all the time. If you're in love with that kind of dress, just go for it!

I know some people have two dresses and I don't see it as being over-indulgent. If that's what you really want to do then go for it. The only con for me would be that I'm so in love with my dress that I want to wear it for as long as possible!

There is nothing wrong with wearing two dresses, in fact many brides opt to do this... go for it, if it makes you feel good – it is your day afterall.

The only question I ask is: why do you want to change? If it is solely to surprise your groom…bless him, I am sure he will blown away with the first dress you wear during the day.

I agree with Venart that some people might feel this is slightly over indulgent but this may only be the case if the second dress doesn’t feel more evening and/or party and if the first one wasn’t really suitable for the evening.

I would think about the reason why you want a second dress firstly and then secondly I would think about the following:

    - Will you want to add another ‘stage’, ‘thing to do’ during the day? When will you change? Will you want to leave your wedding and all your friends and family to change your dress?

    - Do you want to spend the money you saved on another dress (especially if you are questioning it)?

    - Will changing make you enjoy the evening more?

    - What will you do with both of the dresses after the wedding?

    Just some thoughts for you.

I hope you have a great Wedding day.

    F.xx

    Great questions!!! Thanks! Smiley smile

I have (will be ordering) an absolutely gorgeous, quite gentle dress, very 'bride', that feels very appropriate for a 'family bbq' style day, little ceremony on the low stage of the village hall, lots of kids around, garden games outside....

But I absolutely LOVE the glam 50's style and I am constantly staring at them, even though I feel strongly I have found the right dress for the day.

As the wedding plans have progressed it has run away with itself a bit (this happens to everyone, yes?!) and I am already excited about the prospect of my karaoke hen night, and my girlfriends and I hijacking the proceedings for a while in the evening to showcase our 'singing' talents. And my other half and I have danced our socks off together at every party/wedding reception we've been to, and hope to do the same this time. So the evening (whilst it was an afterthought initially) is becoming a little more interesting to me at this point. I'll get sweaty on the dancefloor, my curly hair will kick in, and I like the idea of wearing something that's funky and easy to dance in, with messed-up hair to boot!

I think we plan to learn a waltz for our first dance so I thought I'd stay in THE dress for that, and until the food at about 9pm, and whilst people are distracted with the grub quickly get changed, pop on some sparkly shoes and rejoin the party ready to bop the night away.

I guess I do just WANT it. I used to be a real party animal, 3/4 nights a week when I was very young, and really miss a good night out. We are hoping to get pregnant as soon as possible after the wedding so I guess I just see this as an opportunity to be - as venart rightly said - self-indulgent, and have the night of a lifetime! I feel like I'm living a fairytale at the moment so I suspect I just don't quite know where to draw the line - or if there *is* a line ha ha!!!

You have to do what YOU want to do.....lots of girls are doing it and you can get a fab 50's style dress for less than £200.

When I got married in 1989 it was the norm to have a second going away outfit.....so you are just bringing back tradition!
