two questions about photos

detra, 31 December, 2013 at 19:30 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hi everyone. thanks for all the help on my previous question!! I have decided to hire a photographer for my small wedding.

1. Is it okay to tell her shots I want and don't want, and to send pictures to illustrate?

2. What do you call those shots where one of the bride or groom looks sad or angry? I keep seeing them when I am searching for wedding pictures and want to tell her that I don't want this! I think they are instructed to look serious but always just look sad or like one is having second thoughts.

thanks!

It doesn't have a name but you have described it perfectly. So they should know what you mean

Thats "the bl**dy photographer has had us away from our guests for over and hour" look.......

Personally, I have never wanted any of my couples to look sad or angry.......

    Hahahaha.

Can someone flash a pic like this? I don't think I've ever seen it.

I can't actually understand why you'd want to look sad or angry on your wedding day. Surely you want to look happy that you're getting married??!!

You mean the ones where they're holding hands and staring at the camera and looking glum?

    They'll know what you mean.

I had a couple last week say they wanted virtually no detail shots and just ones of the guests partying. Which suits me down to the ground.

they really do look b****y miserable!!

My mum and dad's wedding photograph from 1972 has the entire wedding party standing in a row looking like they should have one of those number boards that prisoners are given for their photographs!

I'm really not keen on those.

The second picture looks like she is having second thoughts and he is trying to talk her in to it!!!

yes!! We are by no way models and I'm afraid if they ask us to do serious poses it will end up the same.

Looks like the guy in the first picture has just spotted a mince pie on the table and prefers that to gaze at that rather than his wife!!!!

Haha! That one reminds me of the cover of a romance novel - she married for status but will learn he is not the man she thought.

    Haha!!

I have emailed my photographer with any similar looking photos I would like that I've seen (she suggested this in the initial consultation) as well as any special requests on paper.

I'm sure your photographer will be pleased with your ideas and suggestions as it gives them more of an idea and direction

I would laugh and ruin (or make) every shot!

As much as I wish to join in on the laughter regarding those images, as a professional I will tell you this: Some couples look better this way than when they attempt a fake smile! ?

This is why I insist on engagement sessions! I get to know my couples and how they react in front of the camera. It is a very real fact that some people simply freeze and having been *conditioned* (mostly by parents!) to say CHEESE, they go on to develop (pardon the pun) the most scary forced smile!

Having said all this, many people can fake a smile with much class!

Speak to your photographer and simply make clear what you want and do not... That should ensure you get just what you want!

Andrea de Gabriel ? <<<This is why I do not smile on photos! I look like Wallace, saying *Cheese, Gromit!*

I'd say it's more than ok to tell your photographer what you do and don't want. I did and he had no issues at all with it. I do think a pre shoot or engagement shoot is a good idea. I did this with mine as my OH was worried she'd freeze I front of a professional. Turned out she loved it but it also meant our guy got to see how we both were In front of the camera.

In regards to the moody shots, can't stand them, never did then myself when I worked as a photographer.

I think if I tried to be moody in the pics I would end up cracking up and end up with a goofy grin anyway!

I clearly cannot do the whole sexy and sultry look ??

I would try pulling off 'blue steel' from Zoolander!

I thought they were trying to look pensive... "I wonder what's for dinner tonight?"
