Two-Dress Brides??

caromb, 18 June, 2014 at 15:14 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hello - I'm looking for a bit of advice please...

Bought this dress last year for wedding this year: http://www.essensedesigns.com/essense-of-australia/dresses#detail/D1315

Gone off it and loving this one: http://www.justinalexanderbridal.com/wedding_dresses/8641

is it just me being super fussy? A case of dress jitters? What would you do? Is it worth all the extra money for a mind-change?

Really confused, any opinions much appreciated!

Thanks :-)

I prefer the first one but its not me that's wearing it.

If i were you, I'd ask myself what it was about the first one that you loved when you bought it & what it was that you dislike now. They're both very similar & I would have to be 100% certain before splashing out on another one. What's to say that you might not go off the 2nd one too?

They're really similar! Exactly the same shape, so you obviously like the shape. You obviously like the lace as that's more or less the same too.

You obviously like straps rather than strapless.

The only clear difference is a bit of extra lace up to the neckline. Seems a bit pointless to swap when they are so similar, and you've not had a complete U-turn on the style you want. But sure, if you've got tonnes of cash, buy the new one. Help the economic recovery by spending!

I think you have every right to be fussy .. this is the biggest day of your life where all eyes are on you and you wouldn't want to be walking down the aisle wishing you had got that second dress. Maybe you could list it on eBay and see how much interest you get on it? There are also so many selling sites now on Facebook etc you could try those too.

I personally prefer the second one, I think it is absolutely stunning. But I don't know the rest of your wedding's theme, colours, bridesmaid dresses, venue etc!

I think it would depend on how much more you would have to fork out to pay for this second dress, if you feel you can still wear the first dress you got and if you have anything else more important you would prefer to spend the money on for your big day.

I have no idea how I am going to pick just one dress .. you are definitely not alone!!

Thanks for posting :-) Well I'm not too sure why I feel this way, other than everyone else seemed to like it more than I did and I just got carried away... I just think its a bit too plain and I don't really feel 'special' in it. I tried the 2nd one today (the bridal shop just happen to have a duplicate order of this one in my size in their stock room) and it's got a bit more glitz. Pretty stressed over this as our wedding is single figure weeks away!

Like the others have said, they're pretty similar, and looks like you could possibly have the first one altered to look more like the second one? tbh, i prefer the first one anyway, and would want to be really sure that the different neckline was worth the money...

    xoxo

The old trap of looking at other dresses (or venues....or flowers....or cakes) when you've already ordered one. Big mistake. Always makes you regret your choices.

Are you having general wedding jitters or stress over anything in particular right now? Might that be contributing to your worry about the first dress not being 'right'?

Can you actually afford to get a second dress, or would you be putting yourself into debt doing so? That should be a key part of your decision making really.

I saved quite a bit on my dress (£800 as it was a too-small sample) and quite a few people know this, only close people but I have an inkling that one of those who know has told others who will be at my wedding. I think that might be putting me off it in a way ?

I agree with many of the others, stop panicking and stop looking at other dresses. They are both very similar so you obviously like that style of dress. I would stick with the first one and if necessary see about a few small alterations to make it your dress. Good luck.

Oh blimey - please don't let that put you off it !

Dresses do not get 'nicer' the more expensive they get. And people who would think an £800 dress is 'cheap' are nuts anyway, but then to think it's somehow less nice because of its price are also silly. Your guests won't think like that, honestly. Your guests will judge your dress by how it looks on YOU - how it fits you and how comfortable you are in it, and a bit about the design too LOL !

I've seen three circa £3k dresses recently on friends, and they were no different to £1000 dresses I've seen elsewhere. They weren't 3 times as nice or something ludicrous !

I spent a fair whack on my dress getting one made. Probably about double I intended to. But it's because I wanted something really specific that wasn't available in the shops. The price I did pay .... I didn't like ANY dresses in that price range in the shops..... The only dress that came close (but was pipped to the post) was one that was £700 or so. But it wasn't quite right and I was tying myself up in knots about how to add bits to it, so just went bespoke in the end on the advice of my mother!

Price means nothing. If anything gets mentioned to you about the price on the day (btw, how rude would that be?), just respond with delight and tell them what a bargain your got for such a gorgeous dress !!

The first dress is absolutely beautiful! Please don't be put off it just because it was a sample. Can you try it on again? I'm sure you'll remember why you chose it if you do.

And yes, stop looking at other dresses!!

    So agree with this!!

For some reason I can't open the pic of your 1st dress but I do think you obviously bought it for a reason so don't wobble about what others might think on price etc. everyone has an opinion about how much things cost but in actual fact it's got nothing to do with anyone else

Thanks for all your replies - I have some food for thought! I've arranged to try the new dress and immediately afterwards try the first dress with a sparkly belt and accessories to see how it looks. Hoping that will make my mind up ?

If it makes you feel any better mine was £150 (inc. postage) on ebay! It was a sample from a shop, it came completer with tags!

I love the first dress. The thing I'd worry about the second one is that it could get a bit scratchy round the neck if it's a hot day. But that's just me!

Don't get me wrong - I absolutely love a bargain ? it was just playing on my mind that word would have got around that I had bought the sample and also I guess I feel a wee bit cheated out of all the fittings and excitement of the visits... it's getting very close and I have jitters all round to be honest. I don't even have my invites out yet! Save the dates went out months ago but I just can't get round to those formal ones ?

no, that would be me. Including alterations, my dress has cost the grand sum of £130, is second hand and gorgeous, in my opinion anyway.

Anyone who judges you on the cost of your dress is not worth bothering with x
