Underwear!!

ducks in a row, 13 September, 2013 at 19:41 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hello lovely ladies,

What is everyone wearing underneath their wedding dress (if anything)?

Can anyone recommend a good place to get a strapless bra which won't be visible underneath and won't slide down? I'm actually finding this quite hard- I've been to Debenhams and House of Fraser and nothing seems to work.

Has anyone worn those spanx type bodyshapers? I've never worn one and I'm worried it will be too uncomfortable or even too sweaty for a June wedding (no one wants a sweaty bride who can't breathe...).

I definitely need a bra for a little padding rather than support- due to small B cups. I could try and have some cups sewn into the dress maybe- but not sure how well that will work with the thin fabric.

Any ideas welcome!

Sorry not much help i'm actually going to keep an eye on this post too!
Needing to get a strapless bra as well, was thinking of trying Debenhams / la senza / bhs or something I assumed they'd be good there and want to get a proper fit as well.
I'm a June bride too and had the same thoughts about being too hot in the bodyshapers but I think i'm going to go for one anyway and take the chance, unless I somehow get rid of my flabby bits before then haha Smiley smile
Maybe the ladies in your wedding dress shop could give some advice about it being sewn in or if it's too thin?

Like I say sorry no help here, love your name & avatar btw!!

If you can - definitely go more upmarket than the standard high street stores.

I've started looking in bravissimo, and also one of my dress shop ladies was a bra fitter too, and also my sister is quite into "good underwear" because she's very blessed. All of the advice from each place, is pay the money to get a proper fit from a specialist store. Everything will stay where it needs too, and you'll be far more comfy.

I have worn to body shapers though - they can get a bit warm, I've worn one that is like a second dress - a tube rather than something with two legs. I find I need to wear tights with it, as it squeezes your legs together, so if you get warm they rub. Also would recommend if you are going down that route to get the largest surface area coverage. Because they squeeze the fat it can make you bulgy out the top, if hey don't come far enough up your abdomen.

Boux avenue. Super helpful staff and made absolutely certain I had the right size. They only have one 'wedding' set though so if it won't go under your dress its a problem. However they have a gorgeous corset too x

I needed a backless bra or a low back corset. I didn't find what I was looking for in Debenhams. Next I tried House Of Fraser the lady was really helpful and said the only thing she had was the backless bra that sticks on..so I have took the risk and went with that and not so glamorous pants. For some reason I don't think I will feel sexy enough for my OH (OH does not care what I have on) so I came across Boux avenue or something similar and bought something more sexy for later on. I should have waited so please look everywhere you can before you settle as I paid £54 and don't really feel great about the underwear.

Yeah I am the week before you! Exciting isn't it haha I find it's flying in!
Great advice ladies, I think i'll try some more expensive places or proper fitters than high street then, I was going to head straight for Debenhams assuming they'd be really good but will have a proper shop around first I think! I'm looking for the biggest undies I can get and will try get the ones that go to just under the bra and down to knees but with the smooth edges so it doesn't leave a line? I've to take a strapless bra and my shoes for my first proper dress fitting so might wear my body shapers too and make sure it looks ok, i'd hate to find lines or rolls of flab hanging over them on the day haha Smiley smile Will just get sexy undies for later and change into them, means I can get a quick shower etc too, although realistically i'll be too tipsy and be sleeping by 12:30 haha!

I am off to buy my underwear tomorrow! Smiley smile I have been recommended the Wonderbra Ultimate Strapless Bra for my dress that has a sweetheart neckline. It has a hand design which is almost like having your bust supported by a pair of hands! Have heard all good reviews so will let you know how I get on tomorrow.

I have the Wonderbra Ultimate strapless and for support it is amazing. You could jump up and down and they wouldn't move! However, I would say I'm larger than average in that area for my size and I do feel that this bra gives me a real cleavage. If I had smaller boobs this would be the point of the Wonderbra! But for me, the cleavage would be inappropriate if it were to be visible in a wedding dress. Clearly this depends entirely on the style of dress you wear, but just wanted to share my experience of this bra!

I haven't given too much thought to what underwear I'll be wearing on my wedding night, probably because I have yet to find my dress and with less than 8 months to go I'm beginning to get a bit scared! My OH won't be too fussed what undies I wear so I think I'll be going for comfort! I have tried the spanks style pull-you-in underwear and think they really smooth everything over and would be worth it for a sleek right fitting dress.

    Hope this helps!

I saw these when I was out shopping today - they are £24 in debenhams ATM - some promotion that's on this weekend. They looked so so secure, I was really impressed.

Another vote for the "hand" wonderbra

Ended up having to go up a size as its fairly snug fitting to make sure everything stays where you need it to, but nothing else I tried reslly came close.

I went to 3department shops and bravissimo.

IEnded uo buying the ivory/nude lace wonderbra online

I bought this one http://www.gossard.com/products/Bras/Strapless/Ooh-La-La-Long-Line-Strapless-Bra/Ivory?gclid=CPHw6fP5zLkCFeGWtAodW3gA_A to wear. When I tried it on I wasn't 100% sure as it felt a bit like the 'longline' part was folding underneath the rest of it. I never had time to buy another though so I wore it for the day, and felt really comfortable, I never noticed it at all. Worth trying on, especially as it's only £13 now!

I had my penultimate fitting this week, and the seamstress highly recommended not wearing a bra on the day as otherwise the material of the bra and the dress can 'work against each other', causing slippage. That helped me decide not to bother with one at all.

I considered Spanx type pants - I've worn them many times before, and love the support they provide. However, as my dress is corseted and A-line, it feels a little OTT. I was also concerned about going to the loo with them on, as guessed the waistband would be somewhere under the internal corset. Instead, I've gone for some fairly simple pants from M&S which give the coverage I'm looking for (enough to save any blushes whilst getting into the dress) without making me overheat.

I bought the wonderbra ultimate strapless 'hand' bra to wear under a strapless dress last Xmas and it holds really well, definitely no slipping or falling out. It's the best strapless bra I've ever owned. Completely seamless. It's not very pretty though.

My dress has a bra built in and I'm getting married abroad so think I'll be going without - eek!

Thanks for all the helpful advice ladies!

I went shopping yesterday and I ended up buying the strapless wonderbra as it is amazing. Yes it aint pretty but its more important that I look good in my dress and the bra doesn't fall down! I was planning on getting something nice to change into for the wedding night anyway just in case (although I've been warned by many friends that the chances of sexy time are very slim given how tired you can get chatting to guests all day and dancing all night!).

I also bought a strapless bra from Calvin Klein- which is a little prettier but still very comfy and doesn't show underneath the dress.

I had a proper fitting at CK and the ladies were very helpful. Turns out I'm a much bigger size than I thought I was- which might have been my problem from the start. I've always worn a 34 for comfort but they explained I need a 32 for real support and as a result had to go up 2 cup sizes- eek! If you haven't already had a proper fitting I would really recommend you do that as I always thought I knew my size but I was so wrong. I've had 'fittings' at M&S before but they only really follow a chart which isn't the same...

Good luck to everyone else and have fun!

I got my first Wonderbra Ultimate strapless in Debenhams for about the £26 mark but my most recent one I got brand new on eBay for about £15! Definitely agree that it is essential to have a proper fitting and can recommend Bravissimo and Debenhams.

Glad it's sorted. I had cups sewn in, coupled with a pair of the thinnest, flattest, nudist, lowest-riding boring knickers in the world. I was scared they'd still peep above my low back....
