Hi Ladies,

As mentioned on another thread I am a bra fitter in Debenhams. If anyone needs any help of suggestions I can do my best.

I would recommend getting fitted for your bridal underwear as so many people wear the wrong size. I noticed yesterday that a couple of people were saying they were a 34A, it could be true but the only people I have ever measured this size are wee girls and old ladies who have nothing left. It's quite unusual to be an A cup. A lot of women think if they have a small bust they will be a small cup but it doesn't work that way. Usually people end up in a much too big a back size. For example, my bra size is a 36 (or 34 on a good day) HH-J, I am a size 18 so people might assume I would be bigger on the back.

Anyways, enough of my rambling, I am here to help!?

As I said, you may be a C cup, if you go down in the back you go up in the cup, sometimes the cups are a bit off so you need to go up another one. I said before that people with small busts assume they must be small cups but it's not true. A woman with a 30D bust will have much smaller boobs than someone with a 34D bust, that's just how it works!?

Mine keep getting bigger too, in the last 10 years I have gone from a 36FF to a 36HH, it's very annoying as I tend to save my new bras and by the time I wear them my boobs have got bigger!

I am glad you agree about not needing a bra necessarily!

I said a bra should be worn inless style dictates. I've worked for over 5 years in the bridal industry and my professional opinion is that a big bust needs a bra to support the boobs under the dress. They all feel great when first on but the boning warms and softens ( unless it's specialist like yours is) I'm not giving this advice for the sake of disagreeing with you but to save some poor bride reading this and thinking its fine to go without a bra and they are a DD+ fact is there are a number of different dress designers with varying degrees of structure to their dresses. Maggie and Ben Rob have some of the best internal structure and I know at least one of them strongly recommends wearing a bra! Less expensive designers have less structure and Internet dresses very little ( in my experience). Having seen pictures of dresses collapsing under the weight of a brides chest come the evening reception I felt it wise to point out the potential pitfalls of choosing not to wear one. That is my professional advice not opinion which is what I had assumed this thread was about! (I'm on my I phone so excuse any typo's)

Sorry Blairwitch, I didn't mean it like that. I am glad you posted on here because I was told that I would be fine without a bra in a plastic boned dress and now I am starting to worry I won't be!

Peaseblossom I thought you said it was a steel corset? If you're having it made is she incorporating cups as well? I can only comment on ready made dressed as I'm so familiar with their construction.

Ps I phone means little punctuation so it probably reads more rants than it should be

Blairwitch do you know anything about Justin Alexander!?! You've got me worried now, the lady in the shop told me I would be fine, and felt so supported in the dress. And like I say I'm a one for never going bra less....

I went and got measured for the first time in years a few months ago (mainly as my cousin works in Bravissimo and made me!!) I'd been wearing a 36D for as longas I can remember...... after a long lecture from my cousin about how I should have been measured ages ago i come out feeling amazing as a 32/34 F/FF (depending on style- some were even a G!!)

I went bridal underwear shopping at the weekend and found a lovely set in Debenhams, however they didn't goup to my size (Only DD) so I've been a bit naughty and went for the 36DD- in my defence this is wedding 'night' underwear so the fact my boobs are spilling out over the top is a plus as far as H2B will be concerned!!!? for the actual day I'm un-decided now- I was planning to go braless as my dress is very structured up to (Benjamin Roberts corsets- AMAZING!!!) however after reading this may need a little re-think ?

Used to stock JA again great structure but if you've got ample boobs I would recommend a bra unless the dress won't take it. Let's face it boobs, unless you're blessed or they're fake, look better when up and supported in a bra. Boning does soften, I once modelled a JA at a wedding fair for 5 hours and it was a perfect replica of my body shape at the end of the day as it had warmed and softened and then moulded and I'm only a d cup. Also a well structured bra can save on alterations across the bust

Can anyone suggest a strapless bra that fits 30GG/H well and wouldn't be adding to the gravitational pull on the dress by the end of the day... Getting my dress made, will be having cups as well as the corsetry but don't want to be hitching and tend to find a need to hitch strapless bras after a few hours... they tend to pull my boobs down, so not convinced that would "help" the dress stay up..

Bravissimo Panache Evie 30H just about stays on tightest hook (have lost a little weight since initial shopping expedition (or it's streched marginally). Debenhams Gorgeous strapless 30GG is definitely too loose on tightest hook (and was just about acceptable when purchased as dress trying on as my nearest bravissimo is 2.5 hours (and expensive bridge crossing) away. Both have only been hand washed

28 back with ?J?? seems to be a no go area, but now struggling with security the 30s.

Hi, Sounds like you need a 28H or HH, Bravissimo seem to have 28's but only up to an H, might be worth a try.

I have had a look online and can find no strapless bras above an H in a 28☹️

Bravissimo have a few basques up to an H. I also saw that someone had had someone sew the bra tighter as it was just for one day, so might be worth getting someone to do that to a 30 for you.

Sorry I can't be more help.

I'm afraid underwear is not my area but the local lingerie shop owner did supply us with a list of sizes that she can get strapless bra's in as she wanted to make sure we could advise brides who were blessed and wanted a strapless dress, I recall things getting difficult after a g cup - don't think she mentioned a lower back size only an upper one.

Oh and a reminder about my second point about wearing basques or corsets under a dress with structure wearing two items with boning against each other can be very sore as the boning can rub against each other and dig into you

No bother - will stick to original plan which is given my dress is being custom made get bra cups sewn in and not wear a separate bra. Dress will have corsetry, which makes a basque a bad idea (ouch!). Not convinced by altering a 30 as the seam would probably be uncomfortable - will have to see how the dress copes without.

    Hi ladies

I am a 34GG and I never buy a bra without being properly fitted. I usually buy them from Debenhams or Bravissimo. Like Venart I have the Rio bra in practically every colour as it is so comfortable.

I was just wondering though how near to the wedding day will you be buying your bridal underwear?

I get married on 30th June and the dress shop have said that I will have my first dress fitting at the end of May. Obviously I need to have my wedding underwear for the fitting but I am wondering roughly how many weeks before the wedding will everybody be buying their underwear.

I plan to purchase mine probably for the last fitting. I think I've decided to have my dress custom made instead of buying ready-made as I feel more comfortable knowing it will be made to my measurements to start, instead of needing so many alterations. I've decided to specify no internal corset or boning on the bodice, as I would rather have it separate. Because of this, I'll definitely need it for the last fitting just to make sure everything works well together. That being said, I wasn't planning to buy it until within a week of then.

I went to Debenhams earlier this week and tried the Freya strapless bra. So disheartening, it did not feel supportive at all. It fit me correctly, but I felt it made my boobs sit much lower than I like, disguising my waist and making me look frumpy! When trying on dresses the saleslady told me it's common to sew bra cups into the dress and not wear a separate bra. If that's the case I think I'd only feel comfortable if it had heavy structure and boning to hold me up and be supportive, and as I'm having my dress made, I think it might just be easier all around if I do a separate corset/basque under the dress.

I'm going to try this as is says it has metal boning instead of plastic, and I hope that means it will hold up better than the evie basque: http://www.amplebosom.com/elila-lace-strapless-longline-p229.php
