Underwear...(Dress is in eep)

*MM3*, 17 January, 2014 at 19:13 Posted on Planning 0 19

Got a letter the other day from my dress shop saying my dress has arrived in Smiley smile So excited although worrying how little time I have to go...

Anyway they said to take along my shoes with me & underwear i'll be wearing as well so know this question has been done a death BUT..

What's the best underwear for wedding day? I need something to smooth and pull in my tummy and give me some shape really.

My mum was saying that people usually wear their white stockings etc on the wedding day but I think i'd rather go for comfort during the day and then sexy undies at night time.

So what's everyone else wearing? Tights / shapers etc? All I know is I need a good strapless bra and my tummy sucked in Smiley smile Don't want to seem like a weirdo to the ladies in the dress shop either haha don't know what the norm is Smiley smile

Any recommendations of the best shapers / waist cinchers etc or am I better with a corset or something? Wish I had a clue about all this!

Thanks!

That's quite a structured dress (you look lovely btw) - I wouldn't have thought you needed any structured underwear?

My advice would be to go for comfort - do you need tights? I literally wore knickers under my dress and nothing else.

Thanks a lot Kharv! I think it's for the comfort of knowing im being pulled in, the dress didn't feel very tight or supportive although very comfy..i'd imagine there'll be a few more bumps about too after my Christmas binging haha.

I prefer tights while wearing heels but I might look into getting some little slip in things for my shoes rather than wearing tights as I don't want to melt either ?
Do agree comfort would be better so as little as possible I suppose haha..I wish I could get away with just knickers under it but I think my tummy will be pouring over haha Smiley smile Thanks again!!

Well if you do decide to wear anything that pulls you in, definitely don't wear anything with boning. That would be very uncomfortable after even a short while as it will cause friction with the dress boning.

I also wouldn't wear anything that has the possibility of rolling down (or up).

And keep an open mind - once the dress is fitted to you, you probably won't need anything (believe me - this is something I very much panicked about!).

I bought a big pair of suck it all in's from Primark, they seem to do the job and the dress lady didn't bat an eyelid when I pulled those babies on.

I wore a massive pair of spanx under my dress. They weren't pretty but they did the job!

The lady in the dress shop didn't bat an eyelid with what I was wearing as I guess that they've seen it all before.

I'm the same. I went for the Wonderbra Ultimate strapless bra (Debenhams has had them cheaper lately) and I'm on the hunt for some suck-'em'-ins too. I've been looking at reviews and most seem to have one complaint or another. I had a look in M&S yesterday and they had some Light Control ones. I'm big on comfort, but still want to be able to breathe!

After 8 orders online, I thought I was going to go insane with underwear!!!

I have a dropped waist (slightly fishtail dress) and I also have a mummy tummy.

So I was trying to find something like my trusty spanx.

    IT DOESNT EXSIST!! lol

i even emailed spanx and begged for them to make me pretty bridal spanx but they said no. I asked really nicely as well. Smiley sad lol

so in the end I got aswel the wonder bra some big pants to match and a tummy clincher.

I looked like a stressed out monster in the end in debenhams I said "please help me.." Hahaha

I have a nude colour strapless bra (my dress is champagne colour so nude was better than white) with a lovely nude pair of spanx that come under my bra as my dress is very unforgiving and fitted ... Not my most sexy look but essential to look my best ha.

Teabag- very true they have seen it all before, have to say the lady helping me to try it on didn't even look twice at my bridget pants Smiley smile

Laura Ellen - I know, all the websites have so many reviews and really mixed, hard to know who to believe! Hope you find your perfect undies haha.

Mrs Petal - I have a mummy tummy as well, people are always saying it's from having your kiddie so love your body but it's hard when squeezing into something haha Smiley smile They look really good actually, do they do the job well? Looks like they would! Glad you got it sorted and no longer a stress monster Smiley laugh

Beccah87 - That looks nice, just saw it on the website too and not a bad price..might give that a go thanks Smiley smile

Feb2014bride - They sound great, and all sexiness goes out the window as long as they do the job thats the main thing haha!

Thanks ladies you're all a fab help as usual!

MM3 I've got the same dilemma re comfort vs sexiness! I won't need to wear a bra with my dress as it's structured enough and I've got small boobies! But I've bought stockings and suspenders to go with pretty bra/Knicks in the night. I could easily wear the stockings and suspenders under my dress, but I'm worried the suspender clasp might ping off and it'll be really hard for me to fix them during the day!

I was too late to see the pic of your dress, but if feeling comfortable on the day will make a big difference I would go with that and just change after. At least then your nice underwear will be fresh when you put it on!

I didn't bother with tights or stockings at all. I was already really warm and this was Dec 21st. Luckily, my dress was easy enough to go to the loo in but I think tights would have been incredibly annoying!
