Unique cake stands

seaouk, 28 September, 2011 at 07:17 Posted on Planning 0 2

We are planning to make our own cake for the day but we are having problems finding the right cake stand. We are looking at having about 6/7 cakes but much smaller than normal cakes but not as small as cup cakes. We are finding this sort of size really hard to find. Does any one have any ideas?

This is the kind of thing we are after:

Any help greatly recieved!

Have you spoken to any cake decorating/supply shops? Some hire stands out or might have more of an idea of whats available. Another option would be to have the cakes on individual stands, all at different heights to give effect, rather than coming from a central post. Otherwise, if you know someone handy with welding, you could have it made. I did find these, although not exactly what you want & some are US sites, but would take the pic to a supply shop & see if they can order it.

Remember that the part of the stand that the actual cake sits on, isnt always as large as a normal cake, but might come flush with the smaller size of cake you want. You could also make the cake board a bit bigger to fit the stand, but still have the cake small, & decorate to cover the cake board.

Many thanks for the links. I think I may have to up my budget! Also as we wil not be icing all the cake show long do you think they can last? As a normal wedding cake will alst for weeks but we were looking at doing things like lemon drizzle, that may not last so long out in the air!

Do you know how big your cakes are going to be? I think you'll really struggle to get a stand similar to the one you posted in any size other than 'cupcake size'.

I have seen some beautiful pictures where people have had a cake table with several cakes on, each displayed on it's own cake stand. They varied in height so that it looked visually appealing.

If you're not going to ice your cakes then they will only keep for a few days. Many can be made in advance and frozen though so that could help you out.
