Unique Touches to your wedding day

2014brideho, 10 August, 2013 at 22:02 Posted on Planning 0 14

My distant friend (more an acquaintance) is getting married a month before me at the same church and reception venue. We booked at the same time without knowing what the other person was doing. Not a great problem as we do not have a lot of mutual friends - no more than 10 out of 150 guests but it has still got me thinking that i want to try to make my wedding as unique as possible... had booked a sweety buffet and photobooth thinking this would help but they have done the same too :/

so question is... what unique detail would you include in your wedding to try to make it different?

    Hey,

Do you and HTB have a shared hobby or favourite place? You could try and incorporate these into the decorations, table names, entertainment ect.

I'm not sure if you are a DIY bride but if you don't mind giving it a go its a sure fire way to make it a personal day to you with lots of your personality in it. #

I wouldn't worry to much as the best weddings are the ones where everyone is there to celebrate the bride and groom and the room is full of love. As long as you get married with the people around you it will be unique from every other wedding.

I am a DIYer bride Smiley smile nearly finished making my invites, moving onto pearlising my shoes next then making my brooch bouquet. My HTB loves football and a particular team so we have chosen ivory and red due to this (supposed to be red and white but i didnt quite like that so its a compromise Smiley smile ) so thought i could have the table names incorporated into this some how. I think im just worried that my wedding wont be as good as hers as she has a much bigger budget than me and just worried its going to be noticeable due to having the same reception venue.

I know it sounds cliche, but the most unique thing you can do is to be yourselves and book things that you like, regardless of what anyone else is doing.

Add personal touches that reflect your personalities and you wont go far wrong ?.

Virtually everything has been done before and if it hasn't yet you can bet that by the time your wedding rolls around it'll be everywhere. We've had several couples this year for example who started planning a couple of years ago- when they started planning "Cadburys purple" and sweetie buffets were something different. This year we've shot at least 8 Cadburys purple weddings and I think only 2 haven't had a sweet buffet, so what is unique now wont necessarily be so when you marry. That doesn't make it any less special, or any less lovely as long as it's what you want.

If you haven't already, have a look around on pinterest. There are lots of great ideas on there that you can tweak and adapt to suit you & the look/style you want for your wedding.

I'm sure that it will be fab and don't worry about the other wedding. I'm sure that as long as people are fed and watered they don't remember the details and money can't always buy style :-)

I'm a DIY bride and I've made several visits to my venue to take photos of the undressed venue so that I can plan how I want it to look. It has really helped.

There are some lovely blogs out there that can help you with some ideas that will be a little different. One of my favourites is Rock my wedding.

    Good luck x

Not sure if you've decided on this yet, but just thought I'd add a suggestion - my OH's cousin got married two years ago and their tables were named after famous/prominent players from his football team (in this case Huddersfield Town), complete with photo of that player on the table number holder (past and present players). This was quite a nice touch and worked well as it was just a simple nod to his favourite team, without being OTT or taking over the 'theme' of the wedding. My OH was upset that his cousin thought of it first! ?

    Hiya

How about a guest book puzzle? That would certainly give your wedding that unique little touch?

Completely agree with PP. Just make it nice and relaxed and your guests will remember that. Oh and have a live band, it will make your evening do kick ass ?

I agree that EVERYTHING has been done before! So don't worry about it. I was freaking out trying to make my day 'unique' (it will certainly be unlike any wedding I've ever been to), but- every time I went online to look at real wedding stuff- I found that someone else had 'stolen' ? my idea!

I can't believe that people still think that sweet tables are original! ?

So now I'm more relaxed about it. As long as everyone has a good time (especially us), I don't care. It's a wedding, not a publicity event!

We've got a live band! Totally agree about it making the atmosphere better (I hope!)- all the best weddings I've been to had live bands. Even if they were a bit cr*ppy, still made the night.

Thank you so much for your replies - and for not making me feel silly Smiley smile I love everyones ideas- so have been thinking (taking on board whats been said) for my "guest book" having a swindon shirt and get everyone to sign / write messages on so that i can then frame it and hang it in our house ( wanted something i could hang in the first place and had thought of a finger print tree but HTB wanted something with messages etc so a good compromise), incoraporating the football somehow on the table for names etc. Then been thinking about the live band suggestion... we are having a friend do a set at the beginning of the night as evening guests arrive who is an elvis inpersonator - and a very good one at that (Elvis remind me and HTB of our first holiday together as we went to a bar every night that had an elvis singer) then a DJ for the rest of the night.

however....One of our friends who is coming to the whole wedding is part of a band and they played recently at a local festival to us and they were very good- so was actually thinking of asking them to play (i know they will be over the moon to do this for us). I was going to suggest maybe to have the music between the church service which will be at 12pm and wedding breakfast which will be roughly at 3.30pm (there is a 20 min drive from church to venue) so thought this would be a good ice breaker plus entertainment to fill the space whilst the photos are being taken.

Would this be too early to have him as he has a soft rock sort of style? really would like to incorporate them if poss but worried that having an elvis singer, then band then DJ would be too much in the evening?

Sorry for such a long post lol

I agree with what everyone else has said in terms of making it personal to you....

we are having table names for countries we have visited together... we are having bright colours and a fun fete feel as we love fairs and fetes... the general feel of the wedding will be very us... and thats what you need to aim for.

For your wedding to represent your personality as thats what will make it unique. x

Its the attention to detail that wins it for me...I went to this beautiful wedding last week and the bride had spent a lot of thought on the decorating all areas of the venue. Just having simple hearts in the trees, and they had a lifesize plastic sheep which was quite quirky. Lots of signs hanging up. All about the details Smiley winking

My unique thing will be my guests!

Unfortunately I'm not very creative or able to do much DIY bits n bobs so everything at my wedding will have been seen a million times over ?
