Unusual advice!

Rhoslyn, 1 December, 2012 at 15:27 Posted on Planning 0 9

Afternoon hitchers,

I am in need of a bit of help especially from anyone musical who has managed the same thing.

We are getting married in July next year. My two sisters aren't bridesmaids but I would like them as involved in the ceremony as possible. I have asked them to do a reading and play the piano when we sign the register. They are really excited about this bit and one of them is even composing a piece of music.

However, idiot that I am, I didn't check that the venue had a piano (which they don't). I have contacted lots of local music shops and none will hire a piano for a day (none will do this). Both sisters have their own pianos but live in London/ Kent and would have to hire a van the day before the wedding to go and collect.

Does anybody have any suggestions? Obviously, the easiest one is t record on CD- but would really like them to perform.

Thank you

Eeek tough one as it would need to be tuned when it gets there wouldn't it?

We hired ours from my husbands music teacher as a surprise from me was that he played throughout our meal (the teacher not my husband). I was going to suggest finding a tutor up there but then it's having them trust you enough to have their piano. I'm stumped x

All I can think of if there was maybe a decent electric keyboard that you could get hold of that would sounds almost as good as the real deal?

Its a lovely idea and I really hope you get a solution, that would be amazing.

I too was going to suggest a keyboard from somewhere. I think the effort of actually getting a piano there would be to much. Can either of them sing?

Maybe they can sing along with the piano tune they have pre-recorded?

I would look down the keyboard route as others have mentioned. A piano would need tuning after being moved, when I moved house it knocked mine right out of key. Not sure what else to suggest.

I would suggest a decent electric keyboard, or maybe see if you could hire an electric piano any easier than a normal one? At least then it wouldn't have to be re-tuned after moving.

I echo what everyone else has said re the electric piano, you can definitely hire those and you can get really decent ones. Yamaha do decent electric pianos that have the same sort of feel as an actual piano. Hiring an actual piano would cost a shedload due to the moving/tuning etc.

Just had another thought (sorry if it seems really obvious), but have you asked your venue if anyone has ever managed to hire a piano for an event there before, perhaps they would have some recommendations?

Thank you all- an electric piano definitely sounds like the way to go. I will have a search and see where I get.

I did mention it to the venue last time I spoke to them- they said they had people who came and performed but they brought their own pianos.

    Thank you for your help.
