Unusual marquees

TheLianneSmith, 1 December, 2012 at 08:03 Posted on Planning 0 23

Need a marquee for 140, don't like the normal marquees, quite like the idea of a circus tent, any ideas anyone? Where do you even get a circus tent?

Have you looked in to the idea of a tipi? You can get hige ones all different shapes + sizes. We were originally going to go down this route but then fell in love with our venue instead!

^^^ might not be exactly right for you but shows that, in principle, a circus tent can be hired!

There are loads of funky marquees around Smiley smile

We opted for giant tipis (katas) ourselves, but there's lots to choose from.

Try Mr & Mrs Unique: https://uniquerebelsunion.co.uk for ideas.

There are lots of different styles on there from suppliers up and down the country.

One thing to keep in mind though is that if you opt for that kind of thing, typically you have to source and pay for literally everything else you'll need yourselves, from flooring to toilet facilities, lighting and generators to power everything. It works out to be pretty expensive, but if it's what you want, go for it Smiley smile

Not sure where you would get one from but if you watch Emmerdale, Katy and Declan had a fantastic one that looked like giant wigwams!

    Hi,

My daughter got married at Drayton Lodge, Norwich, and that has a marquee, which was a draped blank canvas which we decorated with playing card bunting etc for an Alice In Wonderland theme.

That sounds amazing. So your dress caught you by surprise? Your BM's dresses sound wonderful too. Please give them flower crowns!!

    Talk away...love hearing about it.

Here's a few more options for temporary structures:

I know people have mentioned Tipi's but if you decide to go for a tipi, get a quote from this company http://www.worldinspiredtents.co.uk/ they did one of my best friend's wedding and they are excellent.

    Bedouin / Indian Tents

Have you ever thought of having a Bedouin or indian tent? They are fabulous and so different. Here's couple of companies that do them:

    http://www.bedouintents.com/weddings/

    http://www.oasisevents.co.uk/your-event.asp?gcid=15

    http://www.bedouintentexeter.co.uk/

(You can get enclosed indian tents - this pic is just an example I had on file)

    Dalo's

Dalo's are really eye catching - they are basically glass conservatories with spikey roofs which can withstand a force 9 gale!

http://www.showplace.uk.com/Structures%2010x10.html - If you get a quote from these guys, ask for Will or Rob

    Glass Roof Marquees

Don't discount the humble marquee just yet. There is so much you can do with them. How about one with a glass roof for some wow factor? They look amazing if you put the marquee up next to some tall trees and put fairy lights in the branches above the roof.

Get a quote from these companies:

Hope this has given you a bit more food for thought! Good luck x x

I shot a tipi wedding last year. You can have as many as you need as they all connect.

Bench's with faux fur seats a cushion area . If its hot the sides can be lifted. We had a very windy day so could not do that.

    Hog roast for the eve,
